Great discussion thread. I’m in the same boat of considering moving to PC. I’ve had lots of issues with Premier Pro on our 2013 Mac Pro’s, especially working with and rendering 4K.
It’s now November 2019, and the 2019 Mac Pro tower is actually available for purchase. It’s $6000 base price is better than I thought it would be, but it’s pretty easy to configure it up over $10K.
I’d love to hear what you all are thinking about PC, now that the new Mac Pro is available. My thoughts at the beginning are, “if I spent $6K on a PC, I’d be the fastest kid on the block.” Still, It’s a big hump to get over.

    Thanks,

  • I like h.264 (.mp4 wrapper) for the deliverable file size and playback quality. I’d shoot for a target bit rate of 12Mbps. I think the codec is pretty ubiquitous, used for most streaming purposes. Also, reasonable to up/download. In other words, your 1.4 GB files sounds pretty good. Some experimentation with higher bit rate might be helpful for the “theatrical” screening (30ish Mbps).

[Christopher Anderson] “This may cause exports to take longer but it saves time in QC fixes later down the line.”

Indeed. much faster than rendering 4 – 8 times and hoping to get a clean encode.

    Thank you!

  • You can get a 5TB cartridge and a USB 3 dock for under $700.

I’m using a dock and 6TB HDDs for backup now. I’m just too impatient for LTO.
I like the additional bump/drop protection of RDX, but It’s still spinning media, right? So, temp & humidity environment is a consideration, as well as, occasional exercise of the cartridges/disks to ensure long term readability of your data.

November 16, 2012 at 8:31 pm in reply to: Audio Export levels low

    Hello forum,

I’m experiencing the same problem, and I don’t see an acceptable answer here. My exported QT audio levels are significantly lower (to my ear, as well as my board). I’m a freelancer, and don’t have squeeze at this facility. I use QT 7 to make wmvs and compressor to make m4v’s.
Surly it isn’t acceptable that Avid pads the audio, and we just boost it in compression?!?

I’m sure there’s a setting somewhere that I’m missing. I can boost the whole mix in the Audio Project settings, but that effects playback from the timeline, not just the export levels. I don’t see any handles in the export settings.

For what it’s worth, we’re mostly using XDcamHD raw footage, and I export to ProRes.

    Thanks for your help!

I got the paths into AE by copying and pasting them onto a null object. now they are masks and I can animate the masks. Now how can I make them visible as curves?
