I turned off the DV device control and that seemed to solve 80% of the trouble. What I think is going on is because the DV500 doesn’t have a “camera mode” and “vcr mode” like a lot of newer cameras, when you hit stop, the camera goes back into “camera mode” and the vcr disappears from the computer’s perspective. It’s still sort of funky sometimes, but I have it working in a way that is serviceable.

There are NOT any major differences in performance between XP Pro and Home. XP Pro adds Remote Desktop, which you don’t need. XP Home only supports one processor, XP Pro supports two. Pro supports dynamic disks, which doesn’t effect you. There’s lots of other things, mostly networking related, but for your application, XP Home should be fine. I don’t know if the multiprocessor support would be an issue for you if you are using boot camp, because it would be a shame if you could only use one processor from Windows and two from OSX.

Frame by frame in photoshop works…depending on how long it is. Export it as a JPEG sequence. It’s lots of work, and may not look good enough to live up to your standards. I’ve used this technique to get rid of boom mics that found themselves in the shot. Good luck! Tim
