i don’t know if you got it solved yet …
I had that exact problem with some Vimeo content. It was the same AVC AAC file which you’d think would be straightforward. And for some reason what solved it for me was remuxing the file. I demuxed it with MyMp4box, and remuxed it first as vid only content. That worked. Vegas then accepted that vid only remuxed content. It appears that Vegas didn’t like the AAC audio portion. As the audio was the less important in my case, I then just converted it to m4a and remuxed the vid \ audio back together. That way the newly remuxed file had no extra compression \ quality loss to the vid – only the audio. That worked for me anyway.

Oops, well that’s embarrassing. Did the reply button change location at some point here on CC? I seem to remember the Reply button as a blue plain text button and not a graphic. I’m not a big social media user so I always seem to have blinders to those ‘other’ buttons. Thanks Abraham, yes I do see it and from this reply you can see it works. Images are on, my brain wasn’t. I guess I had considered the key words in his sentence to be “Seasonic 620 will do great.” and “it will handle it, no problem.”

After all, remember I had given him my exact specs. That’s what he was referencing off of. Sure you can quote whatever portion of it you want, but look at the whole sentence and what was said in terms of the context in which it was asked – that I had given him the specs. And followed that up with a query to see if, again, my specs would be suitable.

As I acknowledged to you in my response, fair enough, I will definitely get a new PSU. But be careful about quoting him out of context.

Before I purchased the card I emailed Mark at XFX support, gave him my specs and asked him if he thought I’d be OK. His response:

“Beautiful rig, Seasonic 620 will do great. Its on the cusp, but it will handle it, no problem. We’ve ran 390s on 550W Bronze psus and they’re fine on a minimual build.”

So based on my exact specs that was his recommend. I even submitted a follow up to be clear and ask if he thought it wouldn’t be prudent to upgrade first and he said no, it should be fine.

So that influenced my decision. But others on the AMD forum also share your opinion. For now I’ve pulled the card. In two weeks I’ll be able to afford a new PSU and I’ll have another go with it.

As mentioned, I can find some 7970’s used and refurbished on Ebay.ca However the one thing that makes me nervous is lack of a warranty. Some have ‘guaranteed to work’ returns available, but no warranty.

So the r9 280 is basically a rebrand of your 7950. Based on Aaron’s chart I also looked at the r9 280x’s (basically rebranded 7970’s). Slightly over my budget – by $30, but I’d be willing to go there. They offer 2048 stream processors; it’s better than the r9 380’s 1792.

Thanks for clarification on the timeline editing, and encoding vs rendering.

I appreciate all you guys help. It’ll be two weeks b4 I purchase, but it’s all been good info to help with the decision.

It looks like the 7970 – Ghz fits the price and the 620 W PSU limitation. I see a couple refurbished on Amazon.ca There are also quite a few on Ebay. So now I’m leaning in favor of the 7970 ….

I’m curious where you found that John? Are you in the US? Was it new? Used?

As far as Radeon HD’s go I can see only one in my Canadian etailer search so far – a 2GB 6970, but I’m thinking from what you’re saying that it might not offer me anything better than a 3xx series card.

So I won’t see any render benefit (Main Concept again) with any new card, but what about smoothness of editing in the timeline. Would a 3xx series card aid in that? Right now the GTX 650 is off, so I’m just on CPU. CUDA support in Vegas is no support. So an AMD card with Open CL has gotta offer me something, no?

Basically I’m trying to find a card that will benefit me in some way, better than a neutered GTX 650, that’s still within my budget.

HD7970 … so you’re recommending the 7970? Cause I can’t see any listed at online retailer sin Canada. PC Partspicker also shows none available.

Fair enough with the performance of the 290x \ 390x, but as I mentioned in my op, my budget is about $360 CAD. I can find a refurbished 290x for $410 b4 taxes and shipping – so it’s around $475. The 390x? Nothing under $500 in Canada. So both of those options are waaay over my budget.

Also as I mentioned in the op, my PSU is 620W. That’s a limiting factor as well.

Thanks Mike, but that doesn’t work with mp4’s. I can remux them, but as I mentioned in the op, I was wondering if there was a way to natively save them in Vegas, or an add on that would allow exporting them to another file type that can then be re-associated when loading the footage back in the trimmer

Well Graham I’ve been running it over a week now without issue, so re-installing the GPU with drivers only seems to have solved it. Vegas is ID’ing the monitors correctly.
