I really don’t give a damn what’s next. I always find out. I care what works for me now.

Like you Jeremy, I don’t think it ever will happen. Which is why for me (and anyone else with even a seasons’ worth of FCP 7 projects) the current embodiment simply doesn’t work.

I asked a friend returning from an Alaskan hunting trip how it went. She said “Well, nobody shot me. I counted that as a good thing.”

Bill Davis -“You simply can’t recast what has passed for the the FCP-X discussion to date as other than “emotion trumps reason.”
When you make a statement like that you are not just implying but saying outright that there is no room for disagreement with you on that particular subject. I can and will recast it is something other than emotion. It doesn’t work for me in my world. It doesn’t work for many other people in theirs. I don’t care who calls it the future. When it does what I need it to do I’ll consider it. That is empirical, not emotional.

From the situation you describe Vegas I think would serve you just fine. On the lower priced end perhaps even Avid Studio would work for you.

If you are planning on living in LA it is in my experience an Avid town. That said, if you want to make a living then eventually you will have to learn more than one NLE and its ancillary applications. And to paraphrase what has already been said above, the NLE is just the paint. Creating the painting is the hard part.

There is no problem with simplicity as long as it is accompanied by functionality. In this case is is not. There is plenty of potential functionality there but it still does meet many people’s basic needs. Not mine, anyway. While I am encouraged by Apple’s apparent new attitude, after exploring this update I don’t find a lot to shout about. It is also apparently (to me) still a very buggy piece of software.

I’ve been a skeptic about this software since it’s release but I don’t think there is a way to view this that is not positive. The change in attitude (which I never thought would happen) alone is very refreshing. Nothing would make me happier than to proven completely wrong and to have a solid, useable NLE again come winter 2012.

I do hope I am wrong about this but I honestly don’t believe we are not the folks they are aiming at. If we were then I think there might’ve been a bit more information forthcoming from Apple at this point. My bottom line is that if they make a better box at a competitive price that will run the software I need to run then I will buy it. My sole loyalty to the Mac platform has always been FCP. It’s not without fault but it does a number of things better (IMO) than the other NLE’s out there. If it is truly gone for us the I will miss it. And I will be heartily angry at a company that cultivated me for 10+ years and then dropped me like a hot stone for revenue that – in relative terms – would not buy them a hot cup of coffee.
