Well that lasted real long …
“What important changes are happening to CS Review?
CS Review will be discontinued on April 12, 2012. For information on how to remove or transfer stored content, refer to help. Please note: Stored content will no longer be available after April 12, 2012.”
So does this mean perhaps Clip Notes will be making a triumphant return? I just wished it could work with FoxIt. I don’t install Acrobat’s bloatware on any of my systems. But my clients do … 🙂
So if not Clip Notes, will there be anything replacing CS Review?
Thanks,

Ahhhh, gotcha … didn’t realize I was seeing all that there was to be seen. 🙂
Cheers,

Rob,
Ok, right, I saw that page as well (and unless I’m really dense, and just missing it …) I don’t see a list of results. I just see your initial results from a couple of different setups.
Best,
Tim -
Hi Rob:
Yes, that’s where I went to get the benchmark project file. However, I do not see a list of results anywhere. Can you point me in the right direction?
I’ll email you my specs and results in the meantime.
Best,
Tim -
I did your benchmark (as well as Brian Maffit’s … that one is REALLY old!) … and yours took 20 seconds … and I was web browsing, lol. Not sure how I stack up against other modern PC builds, but this seems pretty good to me. I’m running a OC’d Sandybridge 3.4ghz (4.6ghz stable) with 16GB’s RAM (hope to go to 32GB soon), RAID0 Caviar Blacks, SSD OS and App drive.
How can I see other’s results?
Thanks,

No, unfortunately turning off hardware support in the pIRender app does not help either. It is still altering the dialogue box sequence, the alpha option is grayed out, and output avi files contain no Alpha channel. Any other suggestions? (Other than render something smaller of course, lol.)
Thanks,

Sorry, I told you it has been a while … I completely forgot about it. Was just think PIRender was a background separate render process.

October 4, 2011 at 10:16 pm in reply to: SAVE ALPHA is grayed out (greyed out) when trying to export AVI’s.Hi Alan:
Thanks for the fast response. Actually, I think I’ve nailed down what it is exactly. Your tip to try a smaller stage size is what clued me in. I actually tried a 720×480 and it worked fine. (Although it still doesn’t seem to recognize that the Canopus codecs are Alpha-enabled codecs for some reason, but HUFF and Lag. work fine.)
It appears that if the project settings have the stage larger that can be fit on screen at 100% it goofs something up. I don’t believe it has anything to do with PiRender. I say this because the sequencing changes when you have a stage size bigger than can be displayed. Here is what happens …
If you have a stage size smaller than your screen resolution, when you press the “Record” button, you are prompted with the file name/file type box. Then, after choosing AVI and entering a file name, the next prompt is the Codec setup dialogue box, then after that it automatically maximizes the stage area (layout 3 basically) and prompts you with the dialogue box with all of the settings, and Alpha is NOT grayed out.
HOWEVER, if you have a stage size larger than your screen resolution, when you press the “Record” button, you are prompted with the same file name/file type dialogue, however the next dialogue box that appears is the settings screen with the Alpha grayed out. It is skipping the codec config dialogue, and only prompts for it AFTER everything else. This is the culprit and I hope it is a simple fix.
(Also, I think I see it try to maximize the stage area, but then goes back to whatever it was at before when this happens.)

September 16, 2011 at 12:17 am in reply to: Is there a consensus on 852×480 (1:1) VS. 720×480 (1.2 PAR) when it comes to originating material? Thanks for your input, Ben.
[ben g unguren] “When doing graphics work (in AE or PS) I almost always work at square-pixels, and thus at 854×480 (not 852 — technically it’s 853, I think, but odd numbers scare us away).”
Is that because it is simply a little easier, then working something “squished“? I normally flip on and off the A/R correction toggle in AE if I’m not quite sure how something will look. With a little hack to the prefs file you can improve the resolution of the aspect correct view as well.
Yeah, it’s like 853.333333….. the client just gave me 852×480 (even though I said 853), probably for the exact reason you stated. Another reason I believe I always thought doing 720×480 anamorphic was better, as I wasn’t fretting over that 1/3 pixel, lol.
