It sounds like you are using 2 step authentication. You’ll need to generate a special password in your account that you then enter into the password field in FCP X for your Youtube account. It’s not the same as your normal Youtube login password.

That confusion is why our FCP X support in BRU PE 3.1 actually tracks down the real files unless you tell us not to. We’ve uncovered a lot of folks who had unchecked the “Copy files to event folder” option when importing media in 10.0.x.

This is what the Consolidate Project function is for. it will copy the original media into the event so that the real clips are local to the event. That’s what Bret was discussing in his initial response.

Always the full clip. Unless you render things, FCP X (and PP, and MC) always maintain the full clip. Even if you use an external manager like CatDV, you still must re-render the clip (even if you’re not changing the format) since most clip formats don’t allow you to simply yank out frames (ARRI and MXF being exceptions since their clips are frame-based).

You have upgraded to 10.9, right (looking at your sig)?

I saw something similar with 10.0.9 when my system drive was full and had become non-writeable. There wasn’t even a message in the system log file. I discovered it when I tried to open After Effects with my Adobe Cache volume disconnected. AE tried to using my Documents folder and reported the disk as not having enough space.

BRU has it’s own archive container format (been that way since 1985). BRU actually uses exactly what is in the filesystem. If you used special characters, BRU uses special characters. If you set custom permissions or ACLs, BRU maintains (and restore) those special permissions and ACL settings.

Use the Terminal:

Find / -name "*\"*"

That will locate any file that has a literal quote. If you know the Volume that the file is on, you can replace the “/” with the “/Volumes/DriveName” and reduce the search time by limiting the search to a single volume. You can then rename it by using the “mv” command. Given a file with the name of:
This file has a " character.mov
You would use:
mv This\ file\ has\ a\ \"\ char.mov This\ file\ had\ a\ quote\ char.mov

You can use the same technique for any of the “special” characters that LTFS bombs on.

BTW – For BRU users, you don’t need to worry about any of this.

I doubt that you’ll ever be able to do sub clip level backups from FCP X without first rendering the actual sub clips simply because with the exception of MXF and, I believe, AVCHD, you need the entire clip to be able to access it.

However, if you are a BRU PE user, PE 3.1 (coming in January) will perform backups (and restores) using an FCPXML export so that ONLY the clips used are included in the archive container. Remember, LTO tape is relatively inexpensive (~$70 for 2.5TB) and doesn’t interfere with your other workflow storage models while keeping your assets available just in case.

Final Cut Events and Final Cut Projects are now stored in a bundle folder named:

Volume Name’s projects and events

For example, on a storage array named “Black Box”, the bundle would be named:

Black Box’s projects and events

It also gets a new and highly visible icon.

When you first run 10.1, it converts your existing folders on all volumes (and in my case, prompted me to mount some unmounted sparse image files). Once converted, FCP X prompts to either move the old folders to the Trash or save them. If you elect to save them, the folders are combined into a folder on each volume named “Volume Name Old Finale Cut Projects and Events”.

Otherwise, it appears that the access and management within FCP X is the same. I’ll know more as I import new clips.
