No – sync looks at the bundle as a folder. Therefore, only the changes in the folder will be synced.
Just because Finder and FCP X treat the .fcpbundle folder as special, doesn’t mean that everything does. To see what I mean, open a Terminal and type:
ls -l /Path/To/My FCP Library.fcpbundle
You’ll see that the “bundle” is nothing more than a specially identified folder.For instance:
tjones$ ls -l /Volumes/VD 1/Secondary Background.fcpbundle/
total 152
-rw-r--r-- 1 tjones staff 77824 Jan 3 11:04 CurrentVersion.flexolibrary

That really is one of the goodies related to the new Library structure – you can have them anywhere. It really is as simple as you’ve discovered.
The only hiccup occurs if you’re upgrading from 10.0.x to 10.1 and you accept the default conversion offer that FCP makes when you first run 10.1 without being aware of the myriad tutorials that cropped up warning you to do the conversion manually.
The downside, as Brett mentions, is the inability to easily browse the library bundles in Finder. This could end up backfiring on the Apple design idea as more and more users use referenced clips instead of copying the original clips into the libraries.

Robb beat me to it, but catalog size (file count) is definitely your issue here. Also, using subfolders won’t fix the issue because the file count still remains high. Your only solution is to create smaller catalogs that separate the files into smaller (recommended sub 8K to 10K) sections.
As a stop-gap work around, what happens if you modify the advanced properties to use 2048K of memory (Preferences -> Advanced Functionality)?

Warning – vendor input below 🙂 –
If you are hard-set on LTFS, any vendor’s solution will work (as well as LTFS works). I prefer the HP solutions because HP at least acknowledges that Mac computers exist and the real people use them. With the other guys, you are kind of on your own in OS X-land.

I’m not saying any other drive is bad, but I use the SamSung EVO 840 series SSDs both for the boot drive and for a striped array in my 4,1. I use the 500GB drive for boot and 3, 1TB units for the array. The performance is amazing.
I was using the OCZ Vertex 4’s, but there’s still no 1TB option from OCZ.
When I move to the new Mac Pro, I’ll buy a 4th 1TB unit and use those in a TB chassis. Right now, I’m leaning towards this Drobo chassis:

Correct. I’ve submitted a request to the G+ team for something a bit more stable or even a utilization of the secondary SMS message to a registered cell phone, but heard nothing back.

Honestly, my pleasure. I was also bitten by this for all of my Google interactions.
Also note that if you change IP addresses on that system, you may have to go through all of that stuff to set up the App-specpfic password again.
