Have you tried selecting on of the DVCPro50 files, right clicking and selecting “Open With…” to se the proper app type? This worked for me for some older SDII (Sound Designer II) files.

I believe that you’ll be fine with the other drives as well. The only time that I’ve seem permissions changing on my external drives is when OS X somehow got the idea that the drives were network volumes instead of local.

Hi Tangier,
Nick beat me to it, but simply reinstalling 10.9.3 (versus formatting and installation from scratch) from the recovery partition resolved this on both my new Mac Pro and my rMBP systems. You really should start there (do a backup of your Documents, but I didn’t lose anything on either system).

The simple reinstall cleared up the lag and glitching in FCP X on both my nMP and my rMBP.

Sam, what kind of drive is it (how’s in connected)?
I use a couple of shared USB-3 and Thunderbolt drives with the permissions set to “Ignore ownership on this volume” and it is the same when I mount them on my New Mac Pro, rMBP, and my older 4,1.

Wow, that’s unexpected. Excellent that you got it sorted out. Maybe that’s also why I saw it with the network volumes on my system before – the volume was in the 12TB+ range.
You should report that to Adobe. Since 6TB single drives are now available, it could be problematic if just adding such a drive to your system causes this kind of problem.

Yes – try using the USB connection as a starting point. This is all just a guess, but that’s the only time I’ve seen linking not work (when PP thought the drive was a network / remote volume).
Also, does the array show up on your desktop as a drive, or as the little grey/blue volume with the three stick figures holding hands?

Which interface are you using to connect the OWC unit? Some of them can make the array look like a remote volume instead of a local volume and that can confuse the link browser since it won’t let you link to media that may not be there later.
What if you try one of the other connection types?

The 256GB drives are simply slower than the 512GB and 1TB options. However, that just gets us into the “how fast is fast and how slow is slow” discussion…
Unless you’re planning on using your internal disk for output, I don’t think that you’ll be able to justify the price delta. If you have a fast, external Thunderbolt disk solution, you probably won’t notice the difference.

As it turns out, the change for Premiere is done and I do get GPU acceleration (I don’t export from PP, so I hadn’t noticed). However, for After Effects where I’ve been working for the past 3 months, we’re still limited to Nvidia hardware and CUDA.
I took this as a wakeup call, ran some render tests from PP and I was amazed at the change over my 4,1 in encoding. Even against my Kepler card in the 4,1, the difference was over 20% on 3 quick tests.
I now take my wait recommendation back. If that kind of performance is what we’re seeing with CC on the new MP, I say go for it. I suspect the AE update will be just as impressive.
