Along side my 2013 Mac Pro, I use a fully loaded rMBP i7 daily. I connect to a Sonnet IIID and use an ATTO R680 for tape and my disk array, ATTO FastFrame 10GbE, and a Sonnet QiO expander card. I also connect to a 24″ ViewSonic on my desk at home and the office.
Just like I love FCP X, I love using FCP X on my rMBP.
You’ll not be disappointed.

We use this Quadro card:
We have them running on 5 systems with 100% success. Two of them for almost 3 years.
If you have the cash – the Quadro K5000 is an even better option.
We’ve used both Ebay resellers with 100% satisfaction.

An external RAID is always going to be your best performance, but depending our your system, you may be able to get what you’re looking for with adding internal drives to your system.
All of our Mac Pro 4,1 and 5,1 systems are fitted out with 3, 4TB Seagate Constellation ES.3 drives in Striped (RAID 0) mode. This gives us 12TB of acceptably fast (~400MB/sec) disk I/O. For our 2 Windows systems, we use Drive trays from Icy Dock that allow us to place 4 drives into 3, half-Height bays. We then create a Dynamic, striped (RAID 0) array of those drives to achieve similar performance on the Windows platforms. For the Windows systems, we use the ATTO H608 HBA with an SFF-8087 to 4 SATA plugs. We route the second 8087 to the outside with a SAS backplane adapter (SFF-8087 inside to SFF-8088 outside) for tape connectivity.
The Mac systems are also connected to our ArGest RackMOD 320 (scroll to the bottom of the page) units for greater capacity and performance.

Of course, for proper backup and archival, I recommend some form of tape storage.

Only the plugs marked with the battery are backed up in case of power outage.
The others are just like a surge protector.
Be aware that for proper coverage of your RAID system, you should have a minimum of 1,250VA of power. Otherwise, you may find that the RAID draws down the battery before the Mac can safely shut down.

Of course, my favorite is BRU PE which will not only backup the bundles, but also track down any referenced files.
You can create a Full job that contains your bundle libraries and then create an incremental definition that will only include the modified/added files.

I consider that listening to their customers. I know that 3 of my feature requests have been implemented over the life of the new product. While I have no misconceptions that my requests were unique, it is obvious that Apple’s Pro Dev team are listing to the users’ feedback.
After all, that’s what the “Provide Final Cut Pro Feedback…” application menu item is for 🙂 .
