If BRU PE is taking 5-6 hours to fill your LTO tape, something’s wrong and you should mention that in your support ticket. An LTO-6 tape with BRU PE should take just over 4 hours to fill.
Using the command line with LTFS simply removes the Finder overhead, so the performance there would be better than the Finder copy, but still slower than BRU PE.

Hi Kiki.
This is what BRU PE’s “Doubler Mode” is specifically designed for. If you have 2 drives connected to the system, there will be a checkbox enabled on the QuickArchive mode settings panel that will write your selected data to two tapes at the same time.

Did you authenticate when your started BRU PE?
One additional change you can make is to boost the number of allowed warning messages in the brutab file. Open a ticket with our support guys (support.bru.com) and they’ll help you set that up.

The proper identification of tapes is required to locate a tape that is needed for restore. With BRU products, you just need to now the file or folder(s) that you wish to restore, BRU will tell you which tape is required to perform the restore. If you don’t use unique identifiers, how would you know which tape will be needed? 🙂

That’s why it’s a warning [W042] and doesn’t cause your restore to abort. You’ve answered your own question, BTW – Ownership and Permissions are ignored on the volume. This means that BRU can’t reset them to the original values. BRU still restores the file properly.
You can either ignore the warnings, or enable ownership and permissions on the volume until the restore completes and then disable them again.
BRU does its best to restore exactly what it backed up.

As Paige related, the web master and the engineers had not connected on the 3.1.10 update and that why your download was the older 3.1.9.
However, the issue that you’re seeing is definitely indicative of an issue outside of BRU PE. Would you mind opening a ticket (if you haven’t) at support.bru.com so that our team can help you to determine what was causing the hang that you’re witnessing?

It shouldn’t hose the Areca, but may as it can actually gray-screen the Mac.
Make sure that the secondary drive is fast enough to handle the output of the original array, otherwise, the read speed will be reduced enough to invalidate the test. I would recommend an SSD via TB or at least a 2 drive stripe USB-3 array.

Nope – that copy operation still uses the filesystem caching and scatter-gather that I discussed earlier. So that we can demonstrate that it’s not BRU, try this:
cd /Volumes/1st_Areca_Array
sudo tar -cvf - | (cd /Volumes/2nd_Areca_Array ; tar -xf -)
Give it 20 minutes or so and – Boom!Tim

Unfortunately it’s right. But, it ONLY applies to the Areca HBAs / Chipsets. The HighPoint and ATTO HBAs do not suffer from the issue. There’s a reason the Areca cards are so must less expensive…

I am very curious about this statement as BRU is the ONLY product out there that uses the same archival container format, regardless of the platform. BRU also automatically handles platform differences (Windows “\” instead of Unix “/”), endianess issues, filesystem differences, and more.
I can follow the proprietary argument (even though I don’t understand it based on how we operate), but his other statement is either (hopefully) a misunderstanding on his part, or (hopefully not) a statement designed to mislead others.
Also, if you are having crashing issues with BRU PE, we would really appreciate it if you would open a ticket at support.bru.com and describe what’s occurring and what version of BRU PE you’re using.
