I’ve got AE CS4 but no plugin. Guess I’ll play with CC Cylinder, or find a way to use multiple layers for each word to achieve the look of the original still.

Dude, all things LOST are sacrosanct. Criticism is punishable by death.
J.J. Abrams himself created that title animation on a Mac book while they were working on the pilot. All the little “imperfections” you detailed are just part of the beauty of the animation and how it came to be.
Criticizing the LOST title is like criticizing a Star Wars wipe for being cheesy. In any other application, it might be – but it’s Star Wars, so it’s not.
If you don’t get it, you don’t get it.

That’s very cool (and helpful), but what I’d like to know is how did you create the grid lights? I’m boggled.

I know, Will. I know. I didn’t personally turn off Auto-Save, it was just normaled to unchecked when the software loaded. Trust that it’s been turned ON. I have no budget for recovery service, so I will have to rebuild and learn.
Luckily, I did find a backup I did in July so I’ve only lost all the work I’ve done on the lastest spot in the campaign. I’ll take redoing days-worth of work over months.
*sigh*

Yeah, I’m on CS4. I tried the import with the XMP boxes unchecked, but get the same error window “The importer reported a generic error.”
I’ve always used the Media Browser to import and never had a problem before reinstalling Encore.
Any other ideas?

No, I haven’t figured out why it’s happening – but I have been able to work around the issue by using iTunes to convert the mp3 to, well…another mp3. Or wav, or whatever. The converted files seem to play alright.
That’s the best I have for ya, sorry.

I ended up returning just those two particular functions to the original shortcuts and it works fine now. One difference with FCP, though: You have to have the track actually SELECTED to get the playhead to move to the previous/next edit point. In FCP, the marker will move to any edit point as long as the track is on. I miss that.
