Well I have worked out what line to change to make AE’s default video import settings as PAL D1 Widescreen & upper field.

this is the original PAL section…

    # PAL rules
    # soft rule; assume 720×576 25fps formats are DV PAL (lower, PAL D1/DV aspect)
    # soft rule; assume 720×576 formats with all frame rates have PAL DV/D1 pixel aspect ratio
    # soft rule; assume 720×576 native mediacore formats are SDTV PAL
    # soft rule; assume 720×576 DVCPro50 files are SDTV PAL
    720, 576, 25, *, * ~ 768/720, L, *, *, *, *
    720, 576, *, *, * ~ 768/720, *, *, *, *, *
    720, 576, *, *, “dvcp” ~ *, *, *, *, “r6pf”, *
    720, 576, *, *, “v210” ~ *, *, *, *, “r6pf”, *
    720, 576, *, *, “UYVY” ~ *, *, *, *, “r6pf”, *
    720, 576, *, *, “2vuy” ~ *, *, *, *, “r6pf”, *
    720, 576, *, *, “dv5p” ~ *, *, *, *, “r6pf”, *

    this is the changes version…

    # PAL rules
    # soft rule; assume 720×576 25fps formats are DV PAL (lower, PAL D1/DV aspect)
    # soft rule; assume 720×576 formats with all frame rates have PAL DV/D1 pixel aspect ratio
    # soft rule; assume 720×576 native mediacore formats are SDTV PAL
    # soft rule; assume 720×576 DVCPro50 files are SDTV PAL
    720, 576, 25, *, * ~ 1024/720, U, *, *, *, *
    720, 576, *, *, * ~ 768/720, *, *, *, *, *
    720, 576, *, *, “dvcp” ~ *, *, *, *, “r6pf”, *
    720, 576, *, *, “v210” ~ *, *, *, *, “r6pf”, *

    720, 576, *, *, “dv5p” ~ *, *, *, *, “r6pf”, *

this is the line that has changed (the first one that doesn’t start with a #)

    720, 576, 25, *, * ~ 1024/720, U, *, *, *, *

I hope this helps someone else out there cos it will save me lost of mouse clicks per day!!

    Hi Harold,

I am having a similar problem capturing, especially with audio, I am getting a long lag between when I hit capture now till it actually starts to capture. this lag is about 2 sec 23 frames when capturing just video BUT WHEN CAPTURING VIDEO & AUDIO blows out to 6 sec 19 frames.

I then looked into why it would be longer with audio and noticed the 24bit capoture on SDI audio. Whats the deal with that?? There is like you said no option to capture normally at 16bit.

I am not getting captures that are out of sync but these problem coupld be related somehow.

Blackmagic…or anyone, what’s the story with the audio capture bit rates???

Unfortunately Charles that is not the case as changing this setting does nothing. But I did feel a glimer of hope after reading your response so I do thank you for it.

Very early on in my testing one of the first things was to isolate if it the problem happened while capturing to other drives as well, so all my drives were tested, they included internal HD’s external Firewire drives, external eSata drive and the RAID drive. ALL drives recorded the same lag while capturing so the problem definitely doesn’t relate to drive size.

Any other idea’s cos I am stumped and so is everyone else in Adelaide.

I have gone so far as to completely reformat my OS drive and reinstall ALL software!! nothing changed.

Kristian, I initially spoke to you about this one and you were going to bring it up with apple during conference call. Did anything eventuate from this?
