I use Dropbox for almost all of my file transfers. It syncs with a folder on your computer, so I’m often able to export out of FCP directly into the folder and it starts uploading automatically.
The free version gives you 2GB, and it’s about $12.99/mo I think for 50GB of storage. I’ve found it to be quite worth the price.
I agree FTP is much faster, but this works in the background so it’s not really an issue if you have the time.

Once you’ve changed your sequence settings, select all the clips in the timeline then click on Modify>Conform to Sequence.
If you have an older version of FCP you might have to do each clip individually by double clicking on the clip to open it in the view and click on the Motion tab. Set the scale to 100%, and under Distort make sure the aspect ratio is set to 0 (there’s a good chance it might be −12).
Hope that helps!

I convert all my 7D footage (which is H.264 codec out of the camera) to either Apple ProRes, or XDCAM EX using compressor. Plays beautifully, and edits like a dream!

ah yes… trashing the preferences. Man, I hate doing that!
And I always command-r, never option.
I’ll give the preferences thing a shot and see what happens. Lame.

BTW: This isn’t the Timothy Allen who helps lead this forum. I’ve actually changed my screen name to Tim Allen so people won’t get confused.

I wish we could “just edit”, but unfortunately there’s all this dang hardware and software that gets in the way.
It’s a love/hate thing with me really. I know that I wouldn’t be able to do some of the stuff I do without Final Cut or Avid, but it’s just so frustrating when the very thing that is suppose to be so creatively liberating and effective is the thing that’s holding you down!
I just think it’s interesting to see what people – who are truly successful and effective at their craft – are using.
I’m not shuttin’ anyone down, or trying to degrade an NLE. Just observing. 🙂
Good talk.

I absolutely agree. But when a tool is being used by the majority of the creative elite, it says something significant about the tool.

Don’t forget to have your accountant 1099 them for $50k next year. I assume that will be the value of your uncontracted labor. Let them fight the IRS on it.
