Advice on getting paid
I did an editing job out of town on terms of 30 days (Yes, I know – stupid me) and
instead of a check I’m getting excuses. They did fly me down and rent me
a car and, although there was no contract, it is clear I did something for them.My question is: I signed nothing. No “for hire” agreement. If they haven’t paid
me it would seem to me that that would be a clearance issue for them. Any opinions?
Just looking for some leverage. Thanks for any advice. -

Did you send them an invoice?
There have been many many threads on this board about your exact situation.If you do freelance work, you need a contract or agreement, and the hiring party needs your W9.

Just remind them you will adding more intrest than they collect on your money.
Don’t be bashful. Call the boss of the person you were dealing with… his wife if ya have to.
I’ve never messed with contracts of any kind but one off out of towners don’t balk at half down.

Thanks Grinner. I did just send a new round of invoices with as much
interest as the law allows. Thankfully I do not have the bashful problem.

Don’t forget to have your accountant 1099 them for $50k next year. I assume that will be the value of your uncontracted labor. Let them fight the IRS on it.
