Hmm… I tried checking and unchecking that multiple times but it doesn’t seem to change anything.

Could it perhaps be locked to ‘on’ somehow?

And no, I don’t have any expressions applied, it just happens as soon as I try to draw any mask.

Thank you both for your replies!

EDIT: Okay… apparently it only does that when I try to draw a mask on an imported Cinema 4D .tif sequence. I’ll do a little more testing.

    Woops!

Thanks for the replies guys, I’ve been so busy I forgot about the thread! So it’s an inter-OS issue is it? Honestly, I wouldn’t be using Avid either if my university gave me the choice; I find its usefulness quickly turns to frustration as soon as any other program is involved.

    Thanks anyway.

I’m not 100% sure what my university computers are, but I know they run After Effects CS6 and Avid Symphony (5 or 6) with 6 GB of RAM on Windows 7.

    My system however is:

Macbook Pro early 2013 15-inch Retina Display
    2.7GHz Intel i7 Quad Core
    16 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB (CUDA installed)
    512GB Flash Memory

I run Adobe After Effects version 11.0.2.11 on Mac OSX 10.8.5
    Quicktime 10.2
    Third Party Plugins:
    Particular
    Twitch
    Plexus
    AE Flame
    Move Anchor Point
    Magic Bullet Looks
    Knoll Light Factory

That’s most of what I didn’t already cover in the first post. Hope that helps.

  • Okay, I’ll give it a go. Thanks very much.

  • Hey Adam, thanks for the reply. I live in Australia.

  • Thanks Todd,

I think I’ve got it sorted now!

    Oh no, blonde moment…

You’re absolutely right, Illustrator would be much better to do it in, I was just so focused on working in photoshop that I completely forgot. Though it would be nice if vector masks were applicable to type in photoshop, and I suppose using a layer mask is fine, I just don’t know much about masking in photoshop.

    Thanks very much!

    Sorry I’ve been so distracted…

Here’s my project file, I cleaned it up a bit but it still might be a bit hard to navigate:
    5411_ribbonspiral.c4d.zip
I used a tracer object to get a better idea of the path of the ribbon. I think this was also at a stage where I was ramping the wind up for each consecutive keyframe.

I have a feeling wind functions in a way that once the value is set at a certain keyframe, it needs so many more keyframes to actually accelerate to that rate and the amount of keyframes depends on the wind strength, etc.

    Oh thank you so much!

I’ll be sure to quadruple check that next time 🙂

I think that’s the way to attach things… And I was pretty sure I went over the point count multiple times but I suppose I could have miscounted.

Thanks for the help by the way.
