it’s a project that contains a number of ranges from key word collections..

So the original footage was 6 hours, then I cut out all interviewer voices / questions etc etc.

Now that it’s crunch time, I’ve had to back track a little, and copy all range / marked clips into the timeline to start getting my hands a little dirtier.

One thing I’m really stuck with now (see my above post in the forum) is selecting a clip without the mouse.. if you have any tips on that, I’d most grateful.

Say I’m trying to ‘control x’ a small clip to move down the timeline (via the , ” edit nav) .. I have to take my hand off the keyboard to select a clip.

I’ve been searching for a way to select the clips, but having no luck. I know about the heads and tails thing to edit the clip beyond the cursor, but no dice on mouse’less selections.

Hmm.. I don’t think so? But man I’m confused. Ha!

I think I’m ok now, but my problem was merging timelines I guess.

Like, I had one giant project with 3 hours of footage, and was duplicating it to cut up small bits of 30M.

Then, when I was done editing those bits, I would make a compound clip and close the project.

After that, I would create a new timeline (empty), and go searching for my compound clip in the even library, searching for a reference.

I didn’t realize you just copy from a timeline (compound or not), close the timeline (project?), open a new one, and paste it in.

It seems like creating the compound in the event library first offers some cool options (like that global accessibility of compounds for other projects).. I’ll have to try that for the next project!

Thanks Gentlemen! The problem wasn’t opening a compound clip per se, but combining multiple clips.

so the flow would be 1.project/timeline: make compound clip 2. copy and paste it from that timeline. 3. Close timeline, open new timeline, and paste it there. Right? I’m really quite slow at this!

I’ve been able to make some progress by manually creating the collections by right clicking the event and creating the key word collections one at a time, then dragging the range in from the event browser.

It would be amazing to be able to use the key commands to create new collections as I go and use the hud.. I’ll try the preferences suggestion first thing tomorrow..

hey Gentlemen, I’m still struggling here. I guess I’m pretty slow with this!

1. I’ve created a new event, and imported my footage.

2. I play a clip in the even browser, and set my in and out points.

3. I press shift+command+k (or sometimes just command+k?) to try various combinations of key words

My problems are the following:

A. key work collections don’t show up under my event

B. clips get tagged with multiple words (from previous attempts, none of which show up as collections under my event)

C. the button / hot key to remove all keywords doesn’t seem to be working

D. I’m not able to x out the hud (with the x or with the key combo).

Am I missing something here? Is my workstation buggy?

hi Guys, thanks for sticking with me on this thing.

I’m away from the editing suite right now, but from what the two of you have written, I think I know where I was going wrong.

I was trying to set my i/o points, and drag that range to the key word collection menu (on the left), which didn’t seem to work.

I guess when the yellow range selection is enabled, I just bring up the hud and tag it without clicking / dragging the clip.

And I did try the i/o on the timeline and the right click / locate in the event browser (range wise), so for really long clips, that will be a very handy tool.

I’m 99% sure when I get to my workstation tomorrow I’m going to be flying.. Much thanks again. Creative Cow is the best!

hey Guys, thanks for chiming in! Cool to hear about more people doing similar projects..

I’m still having a little trouble actually, maybe you guys can help?

In the event browser, I’ll be watching a clip and set my ins and outs, then try and drag that yellow selection to a keyword collection. But nothing happens. Do I need to use the yellow selection to crop the peice out (before I can drag it), and if so, how do I get back to the same clip for the second / third cuts (ranges) to make another tagged selection from the same clip?

Tony – when make an edit on the timeline, then ‘right click locate it’, does just that range show up in the event browser, or the whole clip?
