I just got my HVX on Thursday, and spend most of the weekend checking it out. I can directly record into FCP 5.1 off FW 400 with great results.
However, all the clips captured start at TC 00:00:00:00 and start/stop must be controlled by FCP.
I sure would be cool to have the TC follow your P2 data TC and to have FCP start/stop injest on command of the camera. Is this a request to Apple or is there a workaround?
Thanx,

Try this:
1. Go to Audio/Video settings
2. Select Device Control Presets Tab
3. Select the preset you want to use
4. Duplicate and rename as “Varicam w/2fr off” or somthing like that
5. Do a test capture with visible timecode
6. Adjust the “capture offset” value so captured timecode in viewer window matches visible timecode value.
7. If you’re outputting to that deck, check the playback offset value as well so you’re outputting to the correct frame. As a general rule, I ALWAYS DO THIS TEST when using a deck for the first time or when software has been updated.
There’s nothing worse that capturing 2500 clips in a feature only to find out every clip is one frame out of sync!Good luck,

Luke,
I was thinking that I might be the first to ask that question, and I certainly didn’t want you to put in extra effort, but thanks for the clarification. It seems 4:4:4 is starting to catch on here in LA a bit. Nobody, except for BMD and Sony seem to give a hoot and we were looking for a way to insert a letterbox matte on our last project.
We just finished our second feature and have another on the books for Sept.
Best,

In my case, using the 4.8 drivers on FCP 4.5 the absence or presence of tri-level didn’t seem to make any difference at all.
In fact, the ONLY recurring problem I have been having with my HD Pro has been sync recognition. The symptoms were occasional single pixel high pink lines going from the left edge of raster to the center.
I recently changed out the entire board and updated to V5b4 drivers under FCP 5.0 and OS 10.4 and it seems to have more stability when referenced externally to tri-level.
If you choose not to reference externally, make certain that the deck is referenced to “input” not “ext”.
BTW, David, I’m local, so you can give me a call. Email me with your phone number and good times to call.

I’m not in front of anything right now, so I apologize for not having all the info straight
First, some assumptions:
1. You are doing insert edits, not assemble.
2. By intermittent, you mean this error occurs when outputting to the SAME machine, and if you output a second or third time, then the problem goes away. NOT that the error occurs on different days going to different machines?
3. You are working within a pro environment.
4. You have an editable copy of your device control preset for the DVW A500.
4. You have determined that AFTER doing the edit, that the VITC and LTC match EXACTLY.
5. T/C mode is correct (ie, outputting a NDF sequence to a tape striped with NDF timecode)Some ideas:
In FCP:
1. Check that 422 control is set to VTC & LTC in your preset
2. Your offset is set to “0”
3. Obviously, “Sony 422” protocolOn digibeta:
1. Top control panel “TC Gen” switch set to “Regen”
2. Bottom control paned “TC Source” set to “Auto”
3. Menu item 5?? “VITC TC” set to “Regen”
4. Top control panel, “Output reference” set to “EXT”These setting work for us all the time. There may be other things I’m missing. Good luck.
