  • thank you –
    that a pitty really.

  • thanks for sharing your experience!
-what kind of bugs? i alway though avid was stable …

  • thanks a lot!
    then i misinterpreted this:
    1920 x 1200 @60Hz

  • Are you sure about the HP?

that what i found at their website:

Resolutions supported All VESA standard video modes up to 1920 x 1200 @60Hz also supports some Sun and Mac models

  • thanks for the hint. i’ll try the hp L2335. just checked it. has got component in as well.

gaemes nattress filters are great. already using them.
up to now i don’t know exactly how and when to “bump hdv to uncompressed sd” (the finished sequence?) – but i’ll try. also heard that hdv is not so good for doing cc, effects etc.

  • (…)but would recommend you buy your hardware locally.
    —yes, me too.

My preferred low cost option is the 19inch 4:3 (17inch 16:9) JVC HD CRT fed using analogue HD component.
—yes, i heard about this one! but when it comes to lcd – does it make sense to use the 60hz dell or apple-displays at all in a pal-enviroment?

Blackmagic is always the lowest cost solution!
    — then i’ll wait for the native hd-card.

Is all the material shot on HDV ?
    — not yet, but that’s what i am aiming at.

Are the features being sold as HD ?
    — no. i am just hoping to get better sd-results by editing native hdv and bringing the hdv-master-tape to a post-production-house in order to let them make a digi-beta-copy. what would you suggest? edit the downconverted material (downconverted by the z1 or by fcp5)? – and maybe “online” the final timeline in hdv?

  • hi jonathan,

thanks for your answer. just been to your website. looks as if you know what you are talking about … convincing concept! it’s a pitty you are not located in germany.

    Both cards work natively 25/50.
    — my german reseller told me something different. but you will know better.

The 60Hz limitation is the Dell monitor which is native 60Hz like the Apple Cinema Displays.
    — so you don’t think it is a good idea to use them for hdv-monitoring when working in pal? which monitor do you recommend? pricy sony ones?

[nookynook] “What is a proper PAL-solution for PCIe?”

We have both AJA LHe and Blackmagic Multibride Extreme in client systems here, they both work well.

[nookynook] “Does the Decklink do HDV at all or just SD?”

The PCIe Extreme will do HDV in downconvert mode.

Native HD PCIe Blackmagic cards are coming soon and Multiibridge Extreme is shipping now for not much more than the LHe with KL Box.
    — what is the cheapest solution?

[nookynook] “BTW: Anyone with experiences with Quad and HDV? How fast is native HDV-editing”

I have Quad Core G5s here with 6600, 7800 and Quadro graphics cards here, HDV is speedier but still not like running DV. You will get better results by bumping to uncompressed HD for finishing or DVCPRO-HD if you don’t have the storage.

    — dvcpro hd still takes a lot disk space … i am doing longform-features with hundreds of hours of video … was hoping the quad would manage hdv like a “usual g4/g5” manages dv …

  • what about the pal 50/25 thing?
is it true that you have to convert the 60/30 to 50/25 – and that this does not look good? why is there no native pal solution?
