    Hi guys.
thanks for your responses on this thread. The general consensus seems to be that the cards are “ok” however I belive I hired the camera from a company and that camera should be able to shoot at all resolutions supported. I shot everything overcranked because it suited the project. I can see that having the cards in adapters would be fine for personal use but I don’t believe they should be commercially hired out with this unpredictable setup. I think I will take this up with the hire company themselves.
    thanks again

    Hi Craig.
Class 10, 32Gb, 30MBps Sandisk extreme cards. I was shooting 720 @50p for the whole shoot & it asked me to rstore media at least 6-7 times & i ended up loosing clips which wern’t linked to their metadata. because the cards wern’t rated for the 35MBps that i was shooting at i was wondering if it could be partially to blame. I don’t know what firmware was on the camera unfortunatly.
    thanks

    thanks craig.
Im assuming that the full res versions of the clips i’m missing dont exist as the files were corupt and therefore not copied? I formatted the cards after i had copied the footage from them to try and sort out the reoccurring need to restore the cards. it did say the card needed to be restored on about 5 separate occasions. would this suggest the cards were faulty?

    Hi craig.
i was using xdcam transfer downloaded from sony. all the clips i shot are shown in the transfer preview but 175 of the full res versions are missing.
I copied before restoring because i wasn’t sure if i restored it would risk loosing the data.
    is this any help?
    thanks again.

Hi Daniel thanks for your reply. I have found out why it wasn’t working. basically I had collated all the seperate files and burnt them to make a copy rather than just doing a straight disc copy. problem solved. thanks again.

they’re arn’t any in FCP itself but soundtrack if you have it comes with a selection.
to import the imovie ones go to imovie in your applications folder (or wherever it is), rightclick (or ctrl+click) > showpackage contents. contents > resources> sound effects. copy them from the folder that is easier to find and simply import into FCP.
    hope this helps

they’re shouldn’t be a big issue when you upgrade. however it depends if your adding OSX to a new disk or replacing the OS9 compleatly. i would recomend a new install on a fresh disk so if anything does go pear shape you can fall back to os 9 easily.
once you’ve got tiger installed you should be able to install FCP3 then access the orginal project without any problems. (i’d probably copy the file onto the new disk though)
the only thing i’d say is to backup before you do anything so your not risking anything.
i’m sure with the knowledge some people on this forum have they’ll be able to give you a more technical side of it but i guess i’m just the common sense.
    hope it all goes well.

    Hi holly.
they’re are alot out on the market and it really depends on what you need.
Firstly i’m assuming you’ll want a Fire Wire version as your G4 will undoubly have a FW port.
The most common around will be the Lacie version.
