  • Recommend an external dvd burner please?

I have a G4 with OS 9.2, running FCP 3. I need to get an external dvd burner and am looking for some recommendations. I am planning to upgrade to OS X and FCP 4 (or 5, if it’s out by then) soon–I don’t know if that will make a difference. Also, do most burners come bundled with software? As you’ve probably guessed I have no idea of what to look for. Any suggestions are heartily welcomed…thank you!

    Hi holly.
they’re are alot out on the market and it really depends on what you need.
Firstly i’m assuming you’ll want a Fire Wire version as your G4 will undoubly have a FW port.
The most common around will be the Lacie version.

however companys such as Plexor and Sony also have they’re own offering all around the

Thank you! I was wondering…I am planning on getting Tiger when it comes out, but what sort of issues might I expect if I switch from OS 9.2 to OS X but stay with FCP 3? I always stress over this stuff, especially because right now I’m in the middle of a large project. I could wait to get the burner until it’s over, but sooner would be nice.

It’s always the little things that trip me up 🙂

    Thanks again..

they’re shouldn’t be a big issue when you upgrade. however it depends if your adding OSX to a new disk or replacing the OS9 compleatly. i would recomend a new install on a fresh disk so if anything does go pear shape you can fall back to os 9 easily.
once you’ve got tiger installed you should be able to install FCP3 then access the orginal project without any problems. (i’d probably copy the file onto the new disk though)
the only thing i’d say is to backup before you do anything so your not risking anything.
i’m sure with the knowledge some people on this forum have they’ll be able to give you a more technical side of it but i guess i’m just the common sense.
    hope it all goes well.
