Update: I found and even larger emitter library (97,000+ kb) that loads just fine, so library size is not the cause of the crash. Could it be that the problematic library got corrupted somehow?

Can I use the backup version of that emitter library (with the “.bak” extension) by renaming it to have an “.il3” extension and copy/paste it in the library folder?

No, they are not 64 bit. They are simple effects plug-ins by Burger, Cybia, etc.

Uh oh. I just posted (above) about switching my old Windows 2000 stuff to a new Windows 7, 64-bit system, and it looks like I’ve come back, after a long absence, into the tail end of a downward spiral for PI. I was expecting the excellent personal support that Alan use to make available, and I didn’t think a terrific product like PI would be allowed to fall by the techo-wayside.

    Sigh…

Still seeking help on how to export a 4:3 project timeline to tape in widescreen 16:9 format using Premiere 6.5.

OK. That makes sense. Thank you.

But what I am getting from the methods I mentioned is not a “tall, skinny” output but a fat, broad or flattened-looking one (as it appears on my non-widescreen TV -one of these days I might be able to afford a widescreen model), which leads me to think that the resulting video when viewed on a widescreen TV would result in an even broader, flatter image, and which is why I think I am doing something wrong.

October 30, 2008 at 10:04 pm in reply to: Blocker Question

Not totally. There are no particle layers that are supposed to show beneath the overlying blocker layer.

The foremost layer is the animated (.tif files) Christmas tree with the starry particle emitter over the tree and the two flanking blockers (to block the stars that extend beyond the edge of the tree). The two layers below the tree/stars/blocker layer are animated .tif files of kids partially behind the tree and the wall behind them. The blockers do not allow the kids and the wall layers to show regardless of whether the “show layers below” option is checked or not.

Sometimes the emitter icon in the hierarchy window looks just like that until I right click Properties and click on it main icon there, after which the emitter icon in the hierarchy window looks like it’s supposed to (circular). No problem there (even if we don’t know what causes it to change in the first place).

I was just wondering if that same rectangular icon for the Blocker was correct or not (now I know it is), because sometimes the option to show the layers below the Blocker quits working until I close the program down and reopen it. Again, not a major problem. Just something that got me curious.

Thank you for your usual prompt and patiently understanding response.

Yes! Layer Offset. That did the trick. Got exactly what I wanted. Thank you.

Thank you kindly, Paul. I you obviously know a lot more about what things in the emitter components to change and what not to than I do. You managed to get the particle to sit still yet emit to one side like I wanted.

Now all I have to do is play around a bit to try to get the whole thing to have more of the overall look of the unaltered version of the emitter (if that’s possible) or else it won’t match the other scenes in which the unaltered version of the emitter is moving across the frame.
