    Hey Marc,

What do you mean? As in I should send them the wav files from the high res media separately as well as the low res files? Sorry if I misunderstand you.

The problem is that when I bring in the baked audio, I can’t remove anything from the individual channels….I suppose I could have him send me several different baked audio channels so then I’d at least have separation…I just don’t get why the audio won’t come in without any issues.

If I were just outputting it’d be no problem but because I have to do always to a touch of online editing on all my projects that I need to be able to rework things just a touch a frame here or there. So inconvenient.

Somebody has got to have figured this all out…

You know what? I have Symphony which has better finishing than FCP. I want to be an AVID editor who “can” use FCP so I think I’ll just focus the MXO2 box on that NLE. I can always automatic duck a FCP to AVID for finishing should another editor have done the offline cut. Cool?

Okay, great answers, thank you. So a few questions from that. One, is there a box that does work across multiple NLEs? Two, do many just partition the drive into three for each different NLE? And three, if I do all color and finishing in AVID, am I good? This box is used to make H.264s faster and make color easier any way you cut it, so if I exclusively do finishing work in AVID (Symphony or FCP for that matter) I should be set just using a driver for one. Actually…I really wouldn’t edit in Adobe, I just use it for illustrator, photoshop and After Effects so how can I make it so that my Macbook pro can go either Final Cut mode or Avid mode and use this box.

I did get the mini with the Max and I am running on the latest Macbook Pro Retina Display. I will be editing spots using P2 media (AVC intra) mixed with DSLR. I should be able to convert that quickly to DNxHD and do my edit and then export wicked fast to H.264 so I can get to the upload faster. Will the conversion to DNxHD take a looooong time? I’m just trying to get in a position to edit as fast as possible with file based media and (rarely) a direct ingest from my camera.

Right, I think I did read that from you Shane. Never saw 5DtoRGB, looks interesting. But I guess what I’m getting at is when mixing with DSLR, does it make the most sense to ingest and edit my sequences at DSLRs preferred codec rather than trying to have them work on an HQ sequence? I prefer to ingest at my sequence settings to prevent crazy amounts of renders.

Also, I think I will stick with the HPX170 since I want a camera that has more range than just weddings in which most clients can’t tell the difference in footage.

I agree, thank you very much for the help. I will just buy some P2 cards and a reader as it really wont be more than 1600. So that will arm me with two 64 gigs and a 16gig. That way I could shoot continuously until one card fills up, pull out the full card (while still taping on the other) and plug it into the reader, which I’m guessing is attached to an external drive and dump it. Does it take a very long time to dump footage on with that reader? IE am I going to run into the problem of dumping footage on one card and the other filling up too quickly?

Thanks for the reply John. Let me ask you this. For a guy running a 2006 Intel Core Duo iMac and a 2008 or 2009 macbook both on leopard operating systems, would I be okay jumping to Final Cut Studio 3? Isn’t that more for a snow leopard operating system? Just curious

Thank you very much Ronald. The company Crawford Superstore which is the reseller from Amazon called me to ask about my problems with the camera. I simply stated that in the product listing I was promised a five year warranty with registration and that the HPX/HVX book that he advertised coming was not included to which he couldn’t understand why. So he asked to call me back after he spoke with his distributer. He told me that my suspicions were correct and his distributer was jerking the both of us around. He offered me 1000 dollars worth of extras and a five year warranty from CPS for free, but I said I couldn’t afford not to have the American warranty so I needed a refund which he said he would have no problem with. So provided this all goes as planned, I can still get an HPX170 before the New Year so I can get the 500 dollar rebate and a five year amaerican warranty. I’ll definitely get it from the authorized dealer a few towns over. Thanks everybody for the help.

Okay so two things. One it was new when I bought it and came with a 16 Gig P2 Card. So that’s good. However, there was no HVX/HPX book included, so I was suspicious. When I went online to register with Panasonic for the warranty I put in all the information during the process and a message came back saying “the equipment does not match the delivery” or something to that end. So I tried playing around with the country of purchase tab and when I put it on Panama it went through. So I guess I got the right camera but if it breaks I have to get it serviced in Panama I’m guessing? Or do you think Panasonic will let the warranty work in the US? I have a sinking feeling the rebate isn’t going to work either….
