If someone asked me in preproduction what I would want from a DSLR then I’d say that I would want well exposed neutral footage. If the camera can only record in 8 bit then no whatever log things people are trying to sell for it.

You’re assuming too much. Read the manual.

You should probably start checking what clips aren’t linking and do they have anything in common. One thing that might mess you up is that you made proxies in a format that doesn’t support a timecode track and you’re trying to then reconform them to files that do.

You should read the whole part 6 about conforming in the latest Resolve 16 manual (the 17 one isn’t out yet) that starts on page 880.

Bring your media in first. Then import the XML and then Resolve should ask where in the media pool it would search for the files. There are also multiple ways to reconform after the fact, but that would be the easiest way to start a project.

Also there are a lot of stuff that will not come over from a FCPXML file and those should be mentioned in the manual. I don’t know if you can flatten multicam edits in FCPX, but you should probably try that as well.

If the still image is exactly like the shot background you could try the difference matte effect.

I can’t see any flickering on this.

March 29, 2021 at 5:30 am in reply to: DRIVE SPEED FOR EDITING

There aren’t a lot of formats that would straight up require insane speeds to smoothly run them in realtime. Those are usually needed if the workflow requires working on high resolution DPX/TIFF/EXR image sequences where the bitrate for just playing something back would be 2 GB/s or more. Or if one is setting up a NAS that has a lot of users editing footage from one location at the same time.

Most camera footage isn’t really that heavy so the bang for the buck/storage size option would be an HDD RAID that has a sufficiently fast connection on it. Like thunderbolt 3 or an internal RAID if the computer case is big enough.

If you add a camera to the comp those options will show up on the lower right of the comp window.

  • You should probably go through some basic tutorials. You can find a bunch of them at the BorisFX website.

Also if you want to remove something you’ll need to have the background that’ll show up when you remove foreground objects. Do you have a background plate for this shot?
