No, it’s the same thing. Folks just round up to 23.98 as it’s easier to say than 23.976. Even 23.976 is rounding as I believe the equation goes a lot further.

Yes, basically. The HD deck adds 2:3 pulldown to the downconvert. There is no 23.98 SD tape format, so it is assumed that you always want 29.97 (29.976 to be precise, and see, here they rounded down, don’t you love standards).
When you capture into an Avid 23.98 SD project, it removes the extra fields based on a standard 2:3 pulldown added with the A (or first frame in a pulldown sequence) being a zero or five.

Sounds like your cadence is messed up.
Are you starting all of your clips with Timecodes that end in zero or five?
For example 1:00:00:00 is good
For example 1:00:00:01 is bad
For example 1:00:00:05 is good
Only zero or five is correct for the A frame (assuming you are coming from the HD deck and not some downconvert which may be screwed up)
If this is what is happening, and I’ll bet it is, then let me know and I can explain what you are seeing.

You need to know your deliverables before you start. Even though no one is broadcasting 23.98, many want a 23.98 master now as that covers them for any international sales also.

First, don’t shoot the fake 24 in the V1U. It really looks bad next to the true 24 of the F900. It has a “steppy” look that will stand out.
Second, I don’t know about the JH3, but the higher end decks convert the TC to 30 frame to match the Frame conversion. They do need to have the frame conversion board in them though.

I believe there is a way. You select them all in the bin and then a menu action is involved. Sorry, it’s been a long time, but I’ll look tomorrow.

Agreed!
The lower priced clients have NO loyalty. As soon as the guy down the street offers a lower price, they are gone. In the meantime, they are the highest maintenance as they usually have the least experience AND they hire the cheapest folks all the way along the chain so you have more to clean up at the end.
Avoid them like the plague. It is very hard to do when you are worried about paying the rent, but it will pay off in the long run.

If you were on FCP, you could use SyncVue. Does exactly what you are asking, but it depends upon your client having a copy of your media.
Bandwidth is the biggest issue. Your computer and drives have enough problems playing back video and audio, how do you think you could get that across the web?

The sequence should still relink. Is multicam involved? If so, try decomposing A COPY of your sequence and try relinking that.

We do. 😉
However, if they have Boris FX, I believe it is supposed to carry over. At least it did in the early days of Avid FX. They are just renamed as Avid FX but the code is the same.
