This is SDI NTSC captured video using PP2 and an AXIO card. It is fine in PP2 until I put a filter on it as I say.

2nd boot disk: I’m gun shy about being able to have a stable edit system. I’ve had Adobe PP2 and Media 100 systems that were too often crashing and want an edit system like a household appliance, stable and reliable 99.9% of the time. I was thinking a 2nd boot disk would help.
HD monitors: I have a Sony 24″ which is full res 1080 x 1950 but is only 8 bit. It only displays like 7IRE to 100IRE. All else is chopped off. For example I found it is tricky sometimes thinking a color corrected shot was clipped in camera, only to find that there was more in the black or whites on the source material. Compared to a good tube NTSC monitor which can display image below and above legal video. Is there a 10bit 1950 monitor other than the new $25K Sony?

I wanted to make a 2nd boot disk once I have everything installed and the software updates current and the EX1 transfer Software installed (which I expect to take hours). Can I just make a copy of this boot disk on an other disk somehow?
I plan on doing HD color correcting on an NTSC downcoverted signal into an NTSC WFM/VS and 13″ tube monitor.
30″ Dell vs 30″Mac monitor: I am impressed with the dell price wise. I likely will eventually spring for two 30″ monitors.
Any thoughts?

Thanks for the quick reply. I’m most interested in very slow creep zooms, and also want to remote the camera ~60 meters on a pan head. Guess I could use the auto focus on the camera but not sure how good it is. I’ve extened the varizooms using Sony Z1’s and they work great. Any thoughts?

It looks like a terrific idea. However it appears this will not record the top quality setting on the EX-1, 1080p/30. Will it be coming soon?

not sure as it will come back today or monday. Its to fix the known problems vinetting, etc.

We just had our EX1’s firmware updated by Sony. Does this mean having to ship it out again??? Tell me it will be user updateable please…

Just bought one 2wks ago. It is OK, has nice pro features (blue gun, lots of inputs, plus cross etc) but still not as useful for color correction as our 19″ 15 year old NTSC Iki 3 gun monitor.
The Sony’s color rendition just isn’t as smooth – not sure how to quantify this. (chroma noise doesn’t seem to stand out as well for example, subtle colors are not as defined)My biggest beef is it visually clips anything over legal white and black (16 to 235). I have videotapes shot w/no setup & slightly blown highlights & black detail that I can see on the Iki but are gone on the Sony. I only know they are there if I adjust the proc amp. Not good.
