The PVM-14m4u is great. The studio I work at has three. Look on ebay, you can find them there sometimes. We got lucky and got them for about $300 each. The PVM line has actually been discontinued, I think.

    unfortunately, that’s how I did it…

There are other methods, u can use vector paint, set to animate strokes, and used as a matte. I do that quite often. U can also trace out your reveal path with a spline, and use the stroke plugin on it, and then use that as a matte.

But I think masking gives you the most control. I know Jayse put up a tutorial about it, u can find it here…

He uses the write on effect, I think. I haven’t watched the tute. Kinda the same thing as using stroke.

    hope this helps

I would have preffered to shoot it higher quality, but dv was all I had access to for the project. It was shot on a dvx100.

    Thanks for the compliments.

    Sup Joshua,

Jon is right about the stuff flowing out from the action. That was ink dropped in a fish tank against a white background.

The reveal of the images wasn’t done that way though. I printed the images on transparency, and before they could dry, dissolved the ink away by pouring rubbing alcohol on it while shooting it on video. Reversed the footage.

It’s a messy process, but get’s cool results.

do a google search for ambient occlusion for cinema 4d, you will find it. It’s a render hog. You can actually set up a light with soft shadows, and then add noise in AE or photoshop, and it looks better.

uhh, sorry, didn’t blow me away. You shouldn’t be so conceited. ‘My Reel will blow you away’ is not a good attitude to have, especially when your work is mediocre at best. You will get laughed at. You know the programs, so what… I don’t agree with what was said before about you being a talented motion graphic designer. I’d say you are fairly talented with the programs, but your design and typography skills are weak. The program is a tool, and knowing it doesn’t solely make you a good designer. It’s the least important part of the equation. Learn design and typography, and you will improve greatly.

Keep at it for sure, but stop telling people that your reel will blow them away.

    Ted
