February 10, 2007 at 5:55 pm in reply to: HDX900 with Focus Firestore FS100 and v. 3.0 softwareHi Chad,
Yes I can second this issue. Not only can I not get native frame rates…but if you record in quicktime there is no way to remove the duplicate frames unlike a P2 import. This is a real drag for me on a project. I really had my fingers crossed for this update but… Do you think Focus would let this out without testing on the hdx-900?

I agree with everthing you have said here…with the exception that in fact the HDX can overcrank at 60p (and 50p) and with the FRC in Final Cut, I have some great slomo shots. Also one could say that the digital gain function acts every bit like the uncercrank of the varicam albeit not as many frame rate choices as the varicam… How often do you need to shoot at 17fps or 55fps for that matter? I am sure that there are times for specific off speed frame rates and that why I am glad the Varicam is there.

I have had only a short time to play…but my feelings are what I had hoped for . An SDX with more control and HD. I have loved the SDX and this appears to improve upon that camera. I will report back with more thoughts after Labor day. I will be testing a Firestore with it early next week.

Yes, I think mine was the only one delivered to Abel last week. My feeling is that they have really no idea how many or when a shipment is due until a couple of days prior.
It’s worth the wait though. Any SDX users will feel right at home. Todays find…”Line Mix”…6db of gain with no noise or image lag. Not really sure how this works or what the trade off is but I am sure it will come in handy.Taylor

August 27, 2006 at 7:55 pm in reply to: HDX-900 lens shading anyone qualified from Panasonic care to answerTony,
Unless I am missing something I have not seen any menus with reference to Vmod. Could it be listed as something else? The menus are a blend of SDX and Varicam menus but are more like the SDX. There seems to be more control of the camera in general than the SDX and lots more control over camera outputs. The video and monitor outs have extensive settings specific to each.
The new remote looks like it will have its own video out with unique settings for that as well. The remote, I do not have yet, but will have a video path down its cable which is a plus over the two cable setup of the SDX. But I hear rumors of big $$ for it..
The downcoverter has a lot of detail and signal settings in menus and a user switch on the outside panel next to audio section. Interestingly you can switch from HDSDI, SDSDI, and composite video on this switch… I can not find if the SDSDI output is 8 or 10bit but it looks quite good on the 8.4 pana monitor.I will post more as I get more time on it.
I picked up mine on Thursday the 24th.
cheers

August 26, 2006 at 8:01 pm in reply to: HDX-900 lens shading anyone qualified from Panasonic care to answer[tony salgado] “Anyone from Panasonic care to answer the following questions in detail?
I am not qualified by panasonic…but i can help out I think
Will the HDX-900 have both horizontal and vertical saw and para white and black shading instead of the automatic white shading feature found on the SDX-900 ?
Yes the camera has H saw and V saw as well as H and V para control for R,G,and B channels.
Will the HDX 900 have vmod RGB and master adjustments?
It has R and B gain control for each setting (Preset, a or b) plus and offset option for maintaining any value changes during white balance. There is also RGB pedestal and Flare control
How many lens files can be stored to the camera head and SD card?
It seems 8 lens files can be stored in camera at once and 64 in a sd card (8 titles x 8 files)
Are RB gain values stored as part of the lens files?”
Yes..sort of I think you can set the RB gain values and turn off the Reset setting in the Lens file adj. menu and values will be stored. I am not sure if unique RB gain settings are stored for each file or simply not reset to zero…but I will check this out more.
BTW the camera looks great! Have not had much time to play but seems to be everything as promised.
