Problem solved!. Greg Clarke from intelligent assistance sent me an email today. The problem seemed to be that my audio and video in my FCP 7 were linked (which i did after manually syncing). I was instructed to unlink the audio and video, then redo the 7toX process and voila – the same compound (representing my syncing sequence in FCP 7) that had the problem before now (when I opened the compound clip) was full of my synced AV as connected clips (audio connected to the video).

FCP 7 and FCP X, Blackmagic Multibridge 2, offset = 0. Never had to adjust.

FCP X it is for me. I’m all in; growing pains and all.
…but I will still cut a project or three in PP6 to see/learn what it can do.

Sorry Rich, even though FCP X has some growing up to do, I think it’s in a league of it’s own in so many ways. A far departure from what we’re used to and if one tries to shoehorn the old way of doing things into FCP X it makes a lot less sense. The data management, AV foundation, use of core technologies, price point, the way developers love it,…I could go on.
Trust me I am frustrated with some things in X and frankly there’s never been an FCP version I’ve ever been 100% satisfied with, but I don’t think X is going away. FCP X will do what the iPod and iPhone did to their respective industries due the price point and younger users adopting it and expecting it. I truly believe it is the Wii of it’s generation (except way more powerful) and I also believe that there’s “one more thing” that Apple will announce this year that works with or in FCP X; just following some developer trails.
We all pick our tool(s) of choice, but for me Adobe has always been very useful in everything but Premiere, but the codebase seems not to great when running on a mac; slow and bloated but the main workhorse like Photoshop or AfterEffects – mostly because there’s not much competition.
I’d love Apple to buy Pixelmator and SuperPaint and GIMP and Appleize it. Anywho I digress.
FCP 7 is a like a slow dog to me now when I go back to it. It’s most familiar, but it’s painful at times to work in it now that I’ve used X so much. I still need to dabble in Pr6 more, but first impressions at best only amount to where FCP was years ago. Best to know as many tools as you can in the end.

Bill, I haven’t read all of the posts in this thread yet, but I jumped into PR6 today (to test) and had similar results. FCP X was far faster. I used 720p60 AVCHD and there’s really no details to discuss because the entire process from launch to import, to drawing poster frames and skimming (hovering) was much faster on FCP X.

No other apps running.

Jim I agree with you. What’s strange to me is how people seem surprised by the way Apple does things. If you’ve been using their products for a while, then any of the steps (and missteps) shouldn’t be a surprise. And believe me, I get sooo frustrated with Apple sometimes. Though too often I realize (in hind site too) that Apple change the way we do things rather than stick with the status quo. In doing so they create new markets, new followers, new [business] opportunities, and foster new ways of thinking of how we interact with our technology. That is their hallmark I believe.
There’s so much they’ve been doing over the years that points to some amazing things to come; some amazing OS X technologies, database implementations, hardware and software workflow features. ya know, Leopard to Snow Leopard was a lot about cleaning-house – streamlining code, reducing instructions, optimization, etc. I think that this extends into their post apps. though we’re all upset over many of their recent decisions (FCP X, Shake, Soundtrack), I’ve been following the breadth of their work (Quicktime X (AV foundation) being a massive undertaking by the way that is yet finished) and think we’re in for some really nice surprises.
I will say when the G5/Mac Pro body came about I was pretty disappointed. I thought if anyone can fit all of that muscle and upgradeability in a box the size of the old G4’s, Apple could.
Still waiting.
I’m thinking an Apple Cube 2 with thunderbolt and built in projector like those snazzy smart phones. Ok, maybe that’s a bit much.

Definitely interested in checking it out, but I reall love FCP X and the direction it’s going. I think it’s unfortunate as its being said that Adobe made FCP 8. Despite the growing pains of FCP X, I like the forward thinking Apple took and look forward to its growth. I am glad for the competition too. Good for all of us. Would love to try the new Smoke. I only know Blender. Tried the new Avid MC and ran back to FCP 7 and X.
