And what if the material that I want to put out on tape is HDV captured previously as hdv with no prores. Would it work that way?

    Thanks

If I output my file in hdv on a tape and I capture it back with another (better card) would I get batter quality?

    Thank you for your reply.
I am capturing from my deck by choosing prores 422 in the capture settings and I get a much larger file. When finishing the editing I go and in the compressor I put it out in prores 422 (1920×1080), does it help anything?

Thank you all, really helped me a lot.
I have been asked to deliver a project using hdv 1080i60 (native codec), and I have noticed that there is a huge difference size wise, compared to prores 422 using compressor. Is that normal?

    Thanks

Just another question. Is there a big difference capturing with no codec in hdv than compressing the finished material into apple ProRes 422 HQ with compressor, instead of capturing the tape from the beginning with apple ProRes 422 HQ codec? The reason why I am asking is because if I capture without codec I can save space on my hard drive, therefor converting the final project with the codec could be an issue if there is no loss of quality.

    Thanks

    Hi Zane,

I use a Sony HVR-M15A HDV Recorder to capture the tape. I capture via firewire.
In FCP I choose the following setup:
    Format: HDV
    Rate: 29,97 fps
    Use: HDV-1080i60
    Sequence Preset: HDV – 108060
    Capture Preset: HDV
These are my setting in the Easy setup.

    Thanks

    Thanks,
What I am looking for is a kind of stretched format which can be used for dvd post prods.
I have to convert the original HDV files into 16:9 anamorphic but the final sizing has to be this kind of stretched format but still keeping it 720X480.
One time, I have changed the sequence settings into Ntsc dv (3:2), and suddenly I got my footage with the right ratio in the canvas . The only problem is that I have to convert that thing into a DVCPRO/NTSC mov file but the compressor only let me do it in 16:9 or 4:3, and if I do that I loose the 3:2 and the self contained movie once converted shows up in 16:9 or 4:3.
