I think I have proof that there is an identifying circuit. I bought a piggy back style battery on ebay. It fits in the 150 by itself, but the camera returns an error message. Add the stock battery on top of it and the camera works, and shows an increased total run time. Obviously there is some sort of circuit which the camera needs to operate.
