HMC 150 after market batteries
Posted by Rainer Doost on March 11, 2009 at 4:29 pmI’m in the process of buying an HMC150. Does anyone know if there are compatible “after market” batteries. The $169 price tag for the listed battery is a bit steep! Thanx, Rainer

March 11, 2009 at 7:51 pmIt’s a standard Panasonic consumer camcorder battery- you should be able to find it at any electronics store. Take the one that comes with the camera with you for comparison.

March 19, 2009 at 10:21 pmAccording to some other boards I’ve read, the batteries for the HMC150 are unique. They have a circuit that identifies them to the camera, if the camera doesn’t see that circuit, the battery won’t work. I’d loved to be proved wrong, however.

March 19, 2009 at 11:55 pmI too wish you were wrong! I have asked B&H Photo TWICE and each time they have asserted the batteries are unique. So I guess we are stuck until the aftermarket kicks in in about 12 months. Please proof me wrong!

March 21, 2009 at 7:50 pmReally? I swear I’ve popped on Best Buy consumer batts and had no problems. I’d suggest a test- you can always return if it doesn’t work.

May 6, 2009 at 3:53 amI think I have proof that there is an identifying circuit. I bought a piggy back style battery on ebay. It fits in the 150 by itself, but the camera returns an error message. Add the stock battery on top of it and the camera works, and shows an increased total run time. Obviously there is some sort of circuit which the camera needs to operate.
