By George…he’s got it. The deck is a dog!! I didn’t realize that I could do the pass-though thing with the AJA control panel. I had monitored the composite signal out of the deck and since that was there was assuming that the SDI was also leaving. This morning the deck won’t even turn on, so I’m going to kick it back to the public TV station and get them to give me something that they’ve tested first.

I appreciate everyone’s input and feel as though I have a better feel for the AJA control panel. I’ll let you know how the new deck works.

    Thank you!!

    It’s a brand new cable: https://www.markertek.com/Cables-Connectors-Adapters/Video-Cables/BNC-to-BNC-Video-Cables/TecNec-Cables-Connectors/SD11-BB3.xhtml

I have figured out a work around through using an analog video out and looping it though my old beta deck, but it seem silly not to be able to use the SDI.

It’s an SD cable. I’ve looked all over the deck and don’t see any switches for that. I’ll see if I can find the manual online.

It’s definitely in SDI out and it’s a fatter SDI BNC like cable. I just set the audio input to Embedded Ch 1-8. The deck had 4 analog audio out which is what I was trying to use before.

Still not getting anything but TC in FCP and the AJA panel still says No Video.

Thanks for your response Jerry. I have been using the Easy Setups that AJA installs in FCP. I’ve been editing on FCP since 1.25 and have used the Easy Setups for many years. This is behaving very buggy. I’ve deleted my FCP cashe and preferences a couple of times and rebooted. I’m beginning to think maybe there’s some old AJA settings in my FCP and maybe I need to delete all of the settings and reinstall the AJA control panel. I hadn’t updated the AJA control panel in a couple of years and just did that as part of the recent Studio 2 upgrade.

    I’d appreciate any other thoughts.

    Thank you,

Here’s some more strangeness about the presets in FCP.

When I capture using the AJA uncompressed 10 bit…it captures fine. When I change the Capture setting to 8 bit, it captures it, but when I check the compressor setting in the browser it actually captured it as 10 bit instead of 8 bit.

If I try to edit any of the 8 bit settings in the Audio/Video Settings window I get the QT error message previously listed + a General Error (8). I get the same error messages when I try to edit or duplicate any of the settings, including teh Generic Capture Template.

I’ve been running more tests and th error seems to appear when I change the Capture Settings on FCP to AJA Kona LH 525 29.97 8-bit. It seems very happy with the 10 bit setting.

My settings all match…I’m going to keep poking around.

Thanks everyone for your input. I did shoot on Beta and capture uncompressed, so I think the deal is that I need to convince my client to let me do the compositing and not them.

    Cheers,
