Hi I was thinking of using G-Raid over FW800 for my HDV work can you please tell me how well that went ….can I expect smooth editing in FC
-
Thanks again for your reply .I am ready to make a move this weekend so I got to find out fast lol ……..I was thinking of the Mac Pro but if I can save
500 and get a nice 24 inch screen to boot ….I would rather do that ! I felt
it was pretty close with the other Imac so I am really hopeing that the new one may just hit the spot ..its Faster , better graphics and the FW 800 combined may just do it …Last question : speed wise where do you place a FW 800 ,would it be as fast as my SATA drives ?
thanks -
thanks for the reply ,,,well heres the thing I was using a PC box that Ive built myself: dual 3 gig ( pentium d 830 3.0GHZ 800FSB 1M ) to be exact with 2 gigs of ram . 2 sata 10.000 rpm raptor drives in a raid 0 for capture and editing with premier PRO .I started to get into Final Cut with a 20 inch
Imac ( dual core Intel ) just the last one before these new ones hit …But I was dissapointed when it came to HDV editing ( I was using external usb 2.0 and FW 400 for capture on the Imac ) problem was I thought that HDV editing was no where near as zippy or fulid in HDV on the Imac as it was on the PC .
I really do like FC and was hopping that maybe the new Imacs were somewhat a more fulid editing experience .Real time preview on the Imac was no where near as smooth as the PC .even navigating on the timeline was not as smooth .
I dont mind waiting for a render but the whole interface was just not smooth like the PC ,,,,, -
Can anyone comment on using the new iMac s for HDV editing ? No uncompressed just HDV ..
thanks -
All these above comments Pro and con still make me wonder ….to what advantage is a mac pro now ?
-
does Final cut take advantage of the 4 processors now in the 5.1 release
-
Do you happen to have any reference web sites or news prints concering premier pro on the mac intel …I was under the impression that Premier
6.5 was the end of the road for mac versions .I heard there was a falling out
because apple wants Final cut pro to be thier main program and would not give
Adobe access to thier source code .So Adobe said fine ..than we wont make premier Pro for the Mac any more …. -
So would I be right to assume ,That if i go with a dual core intel mac mini .
Id be able to start learning FCP ( I use Adobe premier pro now ) I understand
they are pretty close as to the way they work ….Make a few DVD s with studio pro ..And squeeze out a 3 or 4 sec graphic with motion or live type .
If the anser is yes to all this than thats all I need right now and Id be very happy…and when the time come s to upgrade to a mac pro .I could still use the mini to do some render work instead of just sitting there !
thanks again for your replys ! -
well yes when I asked my question ..I ment i would buy the Dual core ..intel
How much better will that be for motion and dvd studio pro
thanks for your reply -

August 16, 2006 at 10:09 pm in reply to: safest settings for DVD authoring with Studio Pro…Well if you really want the most compatiable discs which will play in well over 90 percent of all players ( as a matter of fact ive never had one that did not play ) you have to burn 3.95 dvd for authoring blank media .However these discs can only be burned in the pioneer dvrs201 .which last I checked cost about 4000 dollars .Not bad though i paid 5400 for mine…Also the blank
media is much more too maybe around 15 a disc for a blank . But I can tell you first hand if you need to be sure they play ..thats the only game in town !
