I understand its hard to decide lol, what do you think is better for me a shorter lens range ie a zoom lens or fixed? Also zoom starting at 18mm or 35mm would you suggest?

Thanks i really do like the 50mm, the only reason i was thinking should i get the other was it was upto 50mm or do you recon i should get as an extra? what other lens would you recomend for me to get? Im thinking just for the closer up senarios i will need something?

Ok, so i take it keep the 50mm or swap it for the 18-55mm standard kit lens, what what you recomend as a second lens a zoom lens or what? The 50mm looks like it would be fine for some of the locations. The audio is something im going to also but hopefully after the display is looking fine

It will be a mixture to be honest; some will be in a studio where as most will be so to put it in the wild, it may be on the sets of someone’s video shoot or out in a cafe or something quiet. The interviewer in some interviews will and some wont be in the shot, the wide 50mm is great for when he is, but with my playing it seems more suited for studios which is fine or shots where we have the space to compensate for zoom where as when we don’t then the 50mm is not useful as it needs to be further away which we wont be able to do with the 50mm, i was looking today at some 18-50mm which is kit lens which i did not opt for and so am thinking is it best to get that or not, the other option i see is get some 28-something or 35-something lens. Im not sure what which would be cheaper ideally looking less then £200. Another thing i was thinking is if i do get lets say a 35 to something would i still need the 50mm or should i get rid of. As for sound at the min im looking into that, im considering attaching a pole mic (rode videomic or something), i have just taken a look at the mics from Shure and they look really good. What would you say is the better option, some times we do have an audio person but they are high level interviews where as others we won’t.

That’s a sample of our usual shots. As you can see 2 we could get awat with on 50mm however some we would need to be zoomed in possibly when the interviewer is behind the cam

Thanks for that, im thinging 50mm is a must now, im presuming u mean NIKON 50mm f1.8 NIKKOR AIS, they do look good, both seem of the same price which would you recomend? Also ill need one more any you would recomend with Image stablised canon or i think nicons equivalant is Vibration Reduction just thinking if i go hand held for anything just need a lens that would be great.

Thanks Steve, did some research it sees it Velbon DF-60 Dual Tripod https://www.amazon.com/Velbon-DF-60-Function-Weight-Tripod/dp/B00009UTVO, to me it seems like a cheap one – my old samsung one looks better im not sure if i can use my old one i cant remember the model. The memory card is some Sandisk 8gb extreme, im not sure how much its worth but i usually get my memory from scan who are local to me https://www.scan.co.uk/search.aspx?q=SDHC im not sure what class is good or any decent brand but i guess i would need to research.

yep, the only thing making me think for the second hand is it includes a tripod, bag and memory card which new would cost an additional £50 unless i can haggle jesops for it to be a freebie which i dont think they will do

Thanks Guys, i did consider what you say and thought in the long term i need something reliable in low light hence DSLR, i could get a lamp and the audio system you suggested however eventually im going to get the same issue with the video quality looking poor on certain shots and saying that at times were interviewing celebs i think it would be better if we invested. My plan is to get a DSLR and a decent lens and a microphone for now that would jack in to the cam and in a few months get the actual audio system. As for a jig for the cam at the min im thinking use the tripod we have as most are shots still at an angle. Ok Guys, ive had my camara back from Samsung and they think nothing is wrong with it even thoguth audio has a hissing noise, taking into account picture quality is not the best in low light i think its time for the DSLR. Ive worked out i have gathered £600 so far and will will be getting anouther hundread or two possibly. Ok now to the options im confused as to get the Sony SLT-A55 which has a HDR which i have no idea what it is and seems to have a good auto focus and stabilisation for video or should i get the Canon 550D which has more lens etc but seems to heva better colour depth and review wise it seems to be better. Also im considering getting the DSLR base only and the lens seperate. I was told by some canon sales guy the basic with the 550d is not great and recomended the Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS. I was wondering what you guys think is a good lens for video it would be mainly low light and interviews it would be used for the cam. Im not sure if you can use other brands with the 550d if i do go that way. Cany anyone advise a good lens please, hopeing to buy something this week if all goes to plan 🙂
