Thanks Shane,
I’m self taught on Avid so can’t really blame their training, plus I’m more of a cameraman than an editor but this transcoding thing seems to be the way to go. So, just to be clear for my non-techy brain, you’re suggesting that as soon as I link to AMA and fill up my bin with clips that I transcode them all then only edit with the transcoded clips?

I’ve worked out the transcoding bit but I’m stumped on the bit where you say ‘export that sequence Same as Source and encode in third party application to meet you delivery needs’ which is to deliver .mov files.
Sorry to be so dim – I’m better behind the camera rather than in front of the Avid!

Thanks for all of your advice. As I mentioned, I’ve tried importing EOS footage straight into M100 and it looks dark and highly compressed. I’d be interested in trying the ProRes codec so decided to buy Compressor but the App Store tell me my computer doesn’t have the right graphics card. (I have a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT). I’m beginning to think I’m just not meant to work with this footage!

What video card would you recommend? I’m using a Mac Pro, 10.6.8, 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xenon.

Yes, I’m trying to put together a short film in Media 100 using footage shot on my EOS 5Dii. I’ve been adivsed that the files need converting before I can use them in Media 100 but I have tried just importing them straight into M100 – for some reason they go rather dark and seem to lack the quality they have when played in Quick Time.

Am I just making life difficult for myself? Do I not need to convert them at all just import them straight into M100?

Ah, just found out that MPEG StreamClip doesn’t give ProRes as a choice of codec.

So if I buy Compressor, will I be able to put the ProRes codec in Media 100 or will it install itself in there? Sorry to sound stupid – I’m deeply untechy!

Would it be better to use Compressor to convert my EOS files or should I stick with MPEG Streamclip?

Thanks Peter,

I’ve downloaded the ProApps QT Codecs but when I try to installl the package it says, “ProApps QuickTime codecs can’t be installed on this disc. No qualifying copies of Final Cut Pro, Motion or Compressor were found”.

I’m still stuck! Any other ideas gratefully received.

Hi There,

Me again – attempting once again to use footage from my EOS 5Dii in Media 100. When I import the files straight into M100 they look pretty rough and go rather dark. I’ve followed your advice and have tried MPEG StreamClip but being deeply untechy am a bit stuck on what settings to use. I’m assuming that the export format to choose is Media 100 PAL-720 (I’m in the UK) but what about all of those other complicated boxes? Interlaced scaling or progresive??
There’s a box for adjustments and in there I can lighten the image or is it better to do that in Media 100?
Whatever I do the exported file still looks a little crumby. I’d be interested to know your thoughts and hear how you are getting on.

Oh, I’ve tried using Magic Bullet Grinder too but discovered that that isn’t compatible with M100.

Hi Floh,

I’m having problems capturing footage from my Sony FX1 via firewire and noticed this thread from some time ago. I too am getting the source as NTSC on the digitzing panel when I am using a PAL camera and in a PAL project. It won’t allow me to digitize in any footage from this camera although yesterday it was fine and I haven’t changed any settings. I’ve had this intermittant problem in the past and have been able to resolve it sometimes by shutting down the Mac and starting again. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn’t. What am I doing wrong?? Answers if you have any in words suitable for a technical simpleton.

I’m using Media 100 suite 1.6.2.

Ah, briliant – I’ve got my keyboard back to how I like it! Such a simple thing.

Regarding the codec issue – fingers crossed that my client will be able to use my files now.
