Wow this is particularly bad programming Adobe. I now have a 20 min edit that I can’t reattach the original media to. Proxies that PP created itself automatically actually don’t work.

How can I fix this problem?

I was interested in trying Davinci before but now I’m determined to get away from PP after yet another software fuckup

  • Want to say thanks!

I was having problems with audio missing from a XML import into premiere from FCP7. As you suggested I opened the PP project in AE and then exported it as a PP project…

… and the audio was back!

    Saved my ass.

  • Thank you! This is the solution.

  • I’d have to disagree with not using “quicktime conversion”.

I’ve been doing a lot of web quality exports from Final Cut Pro 6 (H264, AAC) and I’ve found that when I export using the same settings in Compressor I get aliasing issues like that mentioned above.

When I export using quicktime conversion I get a much better result. This is obviously a pain because the quicktime conversion settings don’t stick between restarts. Apple why don’t you fix this!!!

Even though I’ve used it for years and it’s the only way to encode MPEG2, I’m beginning to not trust Compressor.

If you change the sequence settings in FCP, under the render tab to rending with ProRes it should speed you up considerably. Also output to a ProRes file rather than HDV – encoding HDV is what takes the time. This is the way I always work, it seems to be quite fast.
