  • paste text from a txt file into FCP for scrolling text

Posted by Ryanservant on March 8, 2007 at 4:47 pm

Why is it that no matter what the program I try…Motion, livetype, or FCP when I paste a couple of pages of text to use for a scrolling text it ends up being all on one line. It is almost like none of my line breaks are in there. Am I dealing with a formatt issue? Any help hope be great, this is annoying and I assume it is an easy fix.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

What program are you using to create the text?

When I type some text in text edit with carriage returns, then copy and paste into scrolling text within Final Cut, I get the line breaks.

I’m not sure what’s going on to cause your problem.

I am going to copy and paste part of it here and tell me if it works for you:

Our understanding of HPV infection and its consequences has increased greatly over
the past few decades. While numerous oncogenic HPV types have been identified,
80.3% of all cervical cancers are associated with 4 of the most common, 16, 18, 31, and
    45. These types are responsible for 98% of cervical adenocarcinomas, a particularly
    aggressive form of the disease.

The impact of HPV is felt beyond the clinical setting; evaluating and treating the clinical
manifestations of HPV places an enormous economic burden on the healthcare
system. In the United States, approximately $1.5 billion are spent yearly to screen,

I get the same result here, I still have no clue as to why. Sorry.

Its so weird….I get the word document from my client…So I don’t know what exactly its origins are….but once I save it as a TXT file you think it would be ok.

If anyone has any ideas give me a yell…..

PS the sample I gave is only a 10th of what IO need to use..thats why I am not just re-typing it

I would go into word, select the Word menu, select preference, select view and turn on all the non printing characters.

Perhaps they tabbed between paragraphs or something else funny.

When you find out what characters are between paragraphs, then you can search and replace with something that works correctly for you.

Also, if you want the individual lines of a paragraph to appear on different lines when scroolling, they will not automatically wrap in the scrolling text box as they would in a word document or within the window of text edit.

You would need to force a paragraph mark on every line by manually inserting them. Perhaps this is the issue.

I don;t know what you mean…but after changing the view I still have no idea what is going on. The only markers were the paragraph symbols and they were all inthe right place.

    Im so confused

    I just fixed it.

Im not sure how but I saved it as a txt file from word. Then opened it in tex edit on my mac…..then re-saved it as a basic txt file, then opened up that file and copied and pasted it in FCP and it worked.

    SUPER EASY! (sarcastically said)
