Yes – I am talking about the Reference Library. So I will clear the bits on my HD if there is not even 1 sample in it. Thanks for your response!

Do NOT render it to a wav file. Make sure that you can render the audio stream in Vegas to ac3 – you have more settings there than in DVD A. You can link this stream in DVD A to your video without any problems. But before you use ac3 check the settings there. One I do not like is the Dynamic Range Compression. Play around with it to understand it. I switch it to NONE since my DVD player cannot decompress it. And so the sound gets very flat. But it might have an advantage if your player can handle this correctly.
Also the video template has many settings. One of the most important is the bitrate setting. Try to understand this to select the best settings for you.

No since I made a not so good experience with Sony Vegas and the external monitor. The final picture that the DVD player shows on TV looks a bit different.
The problem could be that I have to use my Sony camera to pass the video to the TV directly using fire wire. The result is not the same as with the DVD player. So I avoid using this camera approach and rely only on the real DVD player and PowerDVD.
But I am worried a bit since there are so many different TV systems out now. No idea how they might react. My brother has a projector, a friend of mine has a plasma and so on… They all live in different parts of the world. So it is not to go there and check 😉 This DVD is of special interest to all of them – so they will get it by mail.
For sure they will forgive me… But it is simply a bit frustrating if you have endless menus and features + everything in real Dolby 5.1 and then you end up with such problems :-((( Perhaps it all has to do with PowerDVD and my Sony TV…and nothing more? I guess from the setting side at DVD A3 I did what is possible. This at least I wanted to make sure. Not that I overlook a setting like in the Vegas project definition…what I got told in this forum…and what helped me so much!!!

“Enable progressive render of DVD menus” is on in the options, “reduce interlace flicker” is on in the menu options, and there is no warning that the color is outside the range of NTSC or PAL. If I take a different color with the same text properties there is no problem at all.
Why not simply change the color? One reason is that without testing it with PowerDVD and normal TV there is no way to find it out if there is a problem since DVD A3 shows great text. The other reason is that the background picture “needs” this color. So why not change the background picture? Because the topic requires a background picture like this 🙂 One problem color at PowerDVD is for instance R 204 G 8 B 0 A 255 with Quixley Let 20 B + I ( a kind of red). This works quite well on the TV with a DVD player. The same font with R 156 G 170 B 152 A 255 B + I looks great on all screens. To give up the red would add a different color to the background what is pretty much in those 2 colors and black.
But this is just one example of not fitting colors. It is somehow trial and error. You think everything is great and render and check on the computer and on the TV and change the color and render and check on…and change…and render…and…give up.

Thank you very much for your response and this article. I see I am not the only one having this problem. But one of the main problems I have is that the text looks great in DVD A3 but awful (useless) in PowerDVD on the same computer monitor. I think it is a question of the color. But there is no guidance at all since DVD A3 shows a different picture than PowerDVD or a normal TV. I do not see this as shortcoming of DVD A3 – but it is not easy since I get 3 different results – DVD A3, PowerDVD and TV. Some write about a DVD standard…just kidding I guess…

I guess you are talking about IBM. My brother and my sister in law work there. But IBM sold so much to China that almost nothing is left 😉 I had a Thinkpad 770 (I guess one of the most expensive Notebooks ever). A nightmare story I will never forget ;-))
I am 50 now and I really started with 14 already to work with computers on a daily basis. With 24 I had my first software for big companies – it was the only one in this field at this time. But then I decided to finish university to make my father happy. So I sold the software and the rights. A step I will regret until the end of my days…
Just got Adobe Encore DVD 2.0. Bit tired of learning new software… But lets have a look if they still have the STOP :-)))

In respect of the HD space, performance and Windows crash I thank you for your advice. It will be helpful for many users of this forum. I have been working with computers for the last 35 years on a daily basis and worked even for 15 years as software designer in one of the biggest software companies in the world. So I am not a beginner when it comes to handle computers or software and see it even more complicated. In respect of HD performance you have to think about partition size, partition position, cluster size, defragmentation, file system, file position, file cache, interface, transfer mode, etc. apart form the HD technical data. In respect of Windows crash…it is a too long story and different for the OS 🙂
I made some DVDs with DVD A3. A software that cannot calculate the requirements for memory space should provide a warning and not a stop. When I tried Adobe Encore DVD 1.5 and it did not create the DVD without new rendering (but stopped) because there were some bitstream peaks too high (what did not cause any problems to all DVD players I have) the next button I pressed was uninstall.
In respect of the menus I looked at Ulead Videostudio 9. They have great themes. If you compare those menus with what you can get in standard at DVD A3 you look a bit poor. I need subtitles, chapters so I cannot use this software. But DVD A3 has some way to go to provide such menus. I do not want to work weeks to create a fitting button or endless scripts (in case of Vegas). It is not my job to edit videos and create DVDs – it is a hobby. But my DVDs should look better than one of the Videostudio 9 DVDs…without working on it for weeks.
But in any case. Thank you for this forum here. Alone with the hint that I have to set in Vegas the deinterlace methode in the project properties it helped me endless. Now ALL my transitions look great!!! Wanted to switch to Adobe already…

The problem is that DVD A3 simply calculates a space requirement what has nothing to do with what it will need – a kind of take the maximum to be on the save side. I know how to trace writes… But it is okay – just kept me very busy.
In respect of the menues I would like to put them in a certain angle. For instance 15 degrees rotated to fit them into the background picture. For this I did not find a way.
