They’re both going the DA>AD route then, my money is on that. You could capture PS3 digitally to standard HD-SDI hardware through a Doremi XDVI-20s or similar DVI>SDI convertor, which’d avoid the signal conversions. If you’re just going outputting web content though I doubt it’d justify the price tag, your 1080i solution looks good for that.

I’ll try a component capture fom PS3 when I get chance and post some links, I’d be interested to see the results.

    Cheers,
    Stuart

How are you outputting from the PS3? Could still be a D>A>D issue somewhere along the line.

Correct, PS3 retail hardware only outputs via HDMI with HDCP very firmly enabled.

I capture uncompressed 720p from PS3 HDMI into a DeckLink Pro and it’s absolutely pin sharp, so I’d guess the weirdness with the Xbox capture is to do with its lack of a digital output and the signal conversions going on before it hits the card. Odd that the progressive capture looks interlaced and vice-versa, again it sounds like a problem internal to the Xbox image processing/output and nothing to do with the capture end of things.

The N3 capture could well have been dumped uncompressed over the network from a 360 dev kit. This’d give them a sharp, uncompressed, in-game capture (look at the aliasing on the ‘wings’) that would be 100% digital.

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply – I’ve never had any experience of working with Varicam so hadn’t heard of active-frame flags – if this method would enable a Xena 2k to handle a dynamically changing input it might be exactly what I’m looking for. I’m off to cross my fingers and do some reading.

    Thanks again,
    Stuart
