Dunno if it’s just me but I would hope that TV stations NEVER accept DVD as a final delivery format for broadcast! A highly compressed format then turned into another highly compressed format? That’s just asking for a horrible picture…

DVD as a broadcast master? I don’t know what the world’s coming to! Back in my day we had standards, grumble, grumble, grumble… 🙂

We’ve had some trouble getting the downconvert to digitise properly into FCP. We’re getting lots of random timecode breaks – in the middle of shots, not just at scene changes. We’ve had to resort to doing dubs or capturing via iMovie.

    Anybody else seen this?

Hmmm, it’s not really uncompressed footage is it? It’s at DV quality shot using a “3 chip camera and transfered to minidv using firewire.” What kind of 3 chip camera? a PD170? In my eyes that’s not broadcast quality…

Just thought I should point this out…

If the cinewave you’re working on has the real time option enabled then you can just copy your timeline onto a cinewave codec sequence without altering a thing. The cinewave sorts out the fields for you. If not, cinewave comes with a lower to upper field filter that you can whack onto the footage.

(BTW just because you have the field dominance set to none doesn’t mean that there are no fields… Your footage will still probably be lower field first.)

    Yep.

As far as I know all the HD formats are 16:9, who wants to shoot 4:3 in this day and age anyway? 🙂

  • Can’t you just cut your sequence as a standard widescreen anamorphic sequence and then let the projector correct the aspect ratio for you?

    Try this:

I’ve heard good things about it – although never tried it myself… It should take a FCP export and transcode it to the correct codec for ya then stick it in the right part of the memory stick. (The PSP has a bloody awful directory structure IMHO)

Sounds like a field order problem to me… Maybe an upper field first instead of lower during encoding? What are your sequence settings, are you shooting PAL or NTSC, and how are you exporting your sequence?

If you can wait for a bit this piece of as-yet-unreleased software ought to do the trick:

Supposed to be released Q1 2005, so perhaps we’ll hear something at NAB…
