    Hi there
I’m starting a project in PAL, which will be shot with the new SONY HD miniDV cam. Does anyone know if it is possible to digitize material that has been shot in HD into a SD project in DV resolution. It’s a documentary and there will be lots of footage. The final project will be in SD, but there is a a lot of CGI involved and the CG guy prefers to work with HD files. Thanks for the replies.
    Peace Alex

Sure, just have the HDV camera or VTR do a downconvert to regular DV when you capture the footage.

We’ve had some trouble getting the downconvert to digitise properly into FCP. We’re getting lots of random timecode breaks – in the middle of shots, not just at scene changes. We’ve had to resort to doing dubs or capturing via iMovie.

    Anybody else seen this?

The Kona 2 will downconvert very nicely to SD. Just run your camera into the K2 and you’ll get either DV or uncompressed SD on the downconvert.
