  • I’m not sure if this answers your question but here’s an article on how to support unofficial cards by changing a text doc:

Also make sure your card’s driver is the most recent available.

I’m bumping this thread. Is this something that someone has worked around?
I know I can do it pretty easily, but its fiddly and seems like someone might have fixed it by now? 🙂

  • I’m not sure I fully understand what you’re after.

You want the layer containg the pre-composition to stop playing whilst the rest of your master composition continues?

I think you want the time remap feature. This allows you to keyframe start and and end frames, also allows you to change the speed.

    So you could time-remap your layer alt+cmd+t / ctrl+alt+t
Then pick frame 0 (there will be a key frame here by default) and then put another keyframe on frame 100.
Then go to the end of the composition and delete the last keyframe. Now your composition will only play those 101 frames and then freeze.

If you want to loop these sections you can use the loopOut expression (look on Dan Ebbert’s site for expressions advice and instructions on how to implement it).

    Hope that helps

Do you need the model? I made one that is compatible.

[Tudor "Ted" Jelescu] “You can use the same layer (duplicated) with the Levels crushed (to see highlights only) and Glow applied to it,”

Agree with everything people are saying here, my 2 cents would be to do the fractal noise and if you have the ‘Optical Flares’ plugin you can set this to luminance mode and play with the threshold, this will flare wherever the ‘water’ is brightest. With a subtle scaled down flare to give a shimmer this should look cool.

Yes this is fine for models with external material files once you have generated UVW maps for all materials, however I don’t know how you export materials made with C4D’s built in shaders? Knowing how to export an unfolded UVW map would help I reckon, though I’m guessing this is covered in the C4D forum.
I managed to import the model in the end with a few modifications and work on the ‘shader based’ materials by hand. Once its completely refined I’ll post a link to the .e3d model w/ assets, should save people some time in future!

Thanks for the quick response, I looked on Turbosquid too, didn’t find anything super amazing for free… however Andy Pawson has a great model here: https://www.andypdawson.com/2011/07/free-ipad-2-cinema-4d-model/

I looked at Andrew’s tutorial ‘Importing Objects & Building Materials’ definitely useful but it kind of glosses over certain issues – the example he used is already compressed into one material whereas most models are a few, often many, different materials, I don’t know if there is a way of compressing a multi material file into a UVW map or if there is a more elegant solution?

    I’ll keep trying!

September 29, 2012 at 11:48 am in reply to: Which card should I use ?

I already own a Mac Pro and am looking at upgrading my video card. From what I’ve read, the Nvidia cards natively support 3D apps better, something called ‘CUDA’. They’re also recommended for getting the most out of CS6.

HOWEVER…the card is already old and massively overpriced. I would consider getting the cheapest card that comes bundled and upgrade to a better card 3rd party, there are professionally reengineered PC graphics cards that have been designed to boot OS X.

Check out the benchmark tests here for AFX https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/2/1019643

I’m personally looking to buy the Nvidia GTX 570 from this seller (other Cow posters have endorsed him or her): https://goo.gl/GmEGT its about half the price and a much faster and more modern card.

I assume it wouldn’t be supported by Applecare, but the card you buy with the mac will be so you can swap them out if you need to take it in for service. Those are my thoughts anyway!

Thanks for replying Adam, I will have a look at caustics, but that word puts fear in me as I seem to remember they take aeons to render and to get right 🙂

I may also check out this 2.5D plugin which seems to show promise and you / anyone who ends up on this post may find interesting:

September 28, 2011 at 1:55 am in reply to: Selective effect matte? How its done?

I’m not sure how this is done here, but you can use the shader effector in mograph.

Making It Look Great 7 with Tim Clapham covers the use of this effector

There is a sample lesson (Halftone) which might shed some light on the technique. Anyway, I did something similar to what you’re doing but with a world map, I used a black and white image of the map on the shader and had this affecting my cloner object… so you could do it with a black on white version of the logo.

Sorry to be vague, hope this is useful and not a red herring!
