Here’s an update- problem solved. I had cleared the media cache database, I hadn’t cleared the actual media in the folder. At the suggestion of Adobe, I did that and it now works. I thought clearing the media cache database did that- but it doesn’t, you have to go to the folders and do it.

I often include a line item of “data management” . I include the time to backup files, encode and upload. If it’s unsupervised overnight kind of stuff, I usually just charge $25 per hour.

Thanks Mike, These links are great and I will continue to explore. I really thought this would be easier to implement. I’m surprised there isn’t a way to add the fields in encoder.

I have looked at MetaZ, but I don’t see a way to create custom fields. I can add data to the fields they provide, but I can’t create my own field.

Yes- right next to the icon size slider is a “up and down” looking icon- that reveals the sort criteria.

I’m looking for that option too. Anybody?

That was quite an answer, you need to save that to your desktop for later use. Thank you very much!

I’m not really concerned about the size of the catalog- it’s more a workflow question. My problem is- I need to find what drive client “BigCompany’s” footage is on, all I know is the clients name and maybe the month and it could be on one of 100 external drives. How would I implement CatDV to solve this problem?

My tests so far haven’t worked. I’d really like to browse the file structure of a drive that’s not connected (and see thumbnails of course)
