That’s what interns or students are for. If you have to do it yourself, try to not go insane. However, once it’s done, things get very easy.

Normally, when we log and capture, we try to capture every shot as a separate clip so we can dump them later when not needed to avoid using too much storage space.

We assigned the #4 assignable button to “delete last clip”. That way, if we roll a take that obviously won’t be used, it’s hit the #4 and then 2 clicks with the joy stick and it’s gone.

They come with a label sticker. I would number them rather than project label them.

They get $500 because it takes 10 minutes for the VO and another ten minutes to create the text. 5 more minutes to burn a master tape and there ya go. $500 for 30 minutes of work. And then, they make a minimum of $15 from time buy rebates.

They invested in their stock footage and now they just reap the cash on the back end.

Most likely, they don’t even burn a tape. They probably transmit electronically using a service.

To do this spot from scratch would probably run $10-15K shooting your own footage. These shots were probably $250 each if you were to buy them. Their copy says “See if it’s available in your area” which means that they run one ad in a market. The next town has the same add with some other companies name and logo.

December 27, 2007 at 1:39 pm in reply to: $10k to spend on marketing

[Jason Jenkins] “But, I figure if the agencies I’ve worked for can bill out my work at $250 per hour, I should be able to bill my work at $125.”

A lot of people think that they won’t get the work unless they’re the cheapest guy on the block. If that were the case, we’d all be eating at MacDonald’s.

We service a marketing company and they said, at a conference we were shooting “Double your prices and watch your bottom line grow. Ignore those who leave to go somewhere else”. Scared to death, we did just that and lost 40% of our business overnight. That means that 60% stayed on and we were doing half the work for the same money. Duh! When my clients ask why the guy down the street is cheaper, I reply “Because they’re worth it.”

December 27, 2007 at 4:16 am in reply to: EX1 case and tripod

I’ll second that Bogen choice. We have a 501 for our DVX100s and it’s been a real performer. When I travel, I have the camera in a rolling hard case and I have the tripod on my shoulder. Even though it’s too large for a carry on, they usually don’t see it and I have never been bothered.

To keep bags to a minimum, I pack clothes in the tripod bag and the hard case. Keep in mind that the feds will go through your stuff. No tools. Go to the airport ahead of time with the items you intend to travel with and have the TSA guys give you an opinion. However, remember that it’s only an opinion of a federal employee and worth nothing when you talk to the next guy. It’s like getting advice from an IRS employee.

You were traveling on a plane, right?

So Gary. Are you saying that the battery is dropping dead when it NOT mounted? Maybe your battery is defective. I bought a group of NP1s 2 years ago that took a dump when they were under a year old.

Camera now in hand (Christmas Morning. Am I crazy? I should be in bed.)

Focus ring forward to AF/MF – Lens zoom and iris are full wide

Subject is an Excedrin bottle, 1/4″ from lens shade

    Turn Macro on and focus.

I was able to zoom to about 20 mm before it went out of focus.

Once it goes out of focus, you have to zoom back and refocus.

I thoought for sure that the lens had to be in full manual but not so.

    Merry Christmas

It is a bit heavy for actual hand held work. I’ve been looking at shoulder braces.

Varizoom and Frezzi both make shoulder units, among others. In the instruction manual, it says that when the camera is being used in the HH position that you need to take your left hand and support the underside of the camera. Good thing they told us.

And there ya go. You would think that the lens would be in MF mode. That’s what threw us off at first.

    Thanks Mark
