3 hours for Comp 2 is ridiculous, in my opinion.

Click the “render details” triangle in the queue and tell us which process seems to be taking the most time as you render. If it’s “retrieving frame”, then your disc is slow, fragged, full, or your images are really big.

Anybody else want to chime in?

That sounds pretty long, but you never know — it depends on what’s in the comp, among other things.

To see how your system shapes up, download and render (tomorrow) the projects from this site:
    https://www.media-motion.tv/aebenchmarks.html
Elsewhere on that site is a benchmark for the fastest system tested.

    Hope that helps,

You turn on fields in the Render Queue under “Render Settings”. Make sure the field order matches the output device.

If you want to flop (the correct term) an image, you can scale it -100,100 (note the minus) by changing the scale property or by using the distort>transform effect. If you only want part of the image, you mask it. The technique is simple, but it sounds as if you want something different.

When you look at a person and a reflection of that person obliquely, say from close to the wall holding the mirror, the person and reflection will look similar. However, If a person stands on a mirror and you view them from above, you see the top of their head, but in the mirror you see the bottom of their chin. Is that the problem? That the mirror should show an image that is actually different from the footage, not just a flop? If so, that cannot be done without shooting more footage.

Keep trying to figure out how to tell us what you want. Every VFX person needs to be able to express clearly what he/she wants in order to determine the proper technique to use.

Try duping the layer, masking half the frame and scaling -100,100 or apply effect>transform to do a similar thing.

    Unless I misunderstood you.

Try using the render queue at quarter-res Render Settings, then stretch to full size in the output module. You don’t have to create a full-length render to test a solution.

Experiment. That’s how I learned the app back in ’97.

The comp rendered out to half resolution, since the comp window was currently set to half Res. (current settings were half-res)
