AE is very picky about selecting the right thing before performing an action. Did you select the brush position property just before pasting or did you just select the layer?

Since those apps are made by the same developer (Apple for FCP/motion, Adobe for Prem/AE), they work quite nicely together … in those pairs.

For FCP/AE, you need something like Automatic Duck.

  • Search the COW using the search terms “kid stays in the picture”.

Select the layers, move the current-time indicator to the desired frame, then:
    mac: opt+]
    win: alt+]

(or opt/alt+[ to trim the in-point)

Have you tried rendering to TGA? Make sure you have “32-bit” checked in the TGA “options” button.

Near the top of the timeline, you should see five buttons. The “shy guy” is number three. Click the first button to enable “dynamic preview”.

I just made a text layer in a comp, then rendered using “composition>save frame as>file” with the “photoshop 32-bit” output module preset in AE 6.5. I reimported the image into AE and saw a transparent BG, no problem.

    -RGB+alpha
    -Millions of colours+
    -Premultiplied

Does Vegas accept premultiplied alpha ? Maybe it likes straight alpha.

For archiving footage from old projects I render to Quicktime with the Photo-JPEG codec at 89 or 94%.

For DVDs I render out of AE to the Animation codec (Quicktime again) then use Apple’s Compressor to compress to MPEG-2. I use Cleaner instead of Compressor when on the PC.

Did you search the help for “track matte”?

July 4, 2005 at 2:45 pm in reply to: Bullet Hole Effect

The effect is called “volumetric lighting” or “volumetrics”, where beams of light strike suspended particles, making the beams of light visible.

Normally, this effect is created on set, or with 3D apps such as Maya, Max, Lightwave or Cinema 4D. After Effects cannot reproduce this effect as well as the 3D apps, but it can fake it somewhat with the aid of third-party plugins:

    1. Trapcode’s Shine plugin can fake it if you apply it to an image (or footage) of a bunch of bright dots. However, it only works with a static camera, as it is not a “3D” effect.

    2. Trapcode’s Lux should do a better job within AE, but I haven’t tried it.

Both products can be found on the Trapcode site.

    Hope that helps,
    Steve
