I already have two HD DVRs in my house. They are supplied by the cable company. But that doesn’t get me a way to transfer my many hours of HDV material tp the HDTV. I use DVD-ROM with WM9 quite happily as I have for over two years now. Let everyone else wait. I have what I need now. What are you going to do? Wait for Blu-Ray or HD-DVD?

If you import the TGA into Premiere Pro when you create it, you will see that when you place it over a colored matte that there is an alpha channel.

There is a technology that allows me to edit HDV and then export to Windows Media 9. I use that file on a DVD-ROM to play HD out to my HDTV using a very special DVD player designed to play Windows Media. At only $249 it has served me very well for two years.

I have no inclination to put a Media Center PC in my TV room. Not yet, anyway.

There are lots of inexpensive HDV cameras you could buy, but if your PC is not up-to-date with Dual Core processors and 2GB RAM, you are going to have a tough time editing.

Premiere Pro can edit HDV if the PC is up to the task. Take a look at the Sony HDR-HC1 or HDR-HD3.

Canon also has a HV10 that might suit you. Just be aware that they are not as cheap as the Sanyo junk.

You really should not be trying to use firewire drives for video. Can’t you put in a couple of new internal drives? One for media and one for a scratch disk.

5? 5 what? 5Mb? Try 8Mb. Your video is short enough to use a Constant Bit Rate of 8Mbps.

I know of no such thing in Premiere Pro. There are a lot orf changes required in the bin structure and features, but making it jazzy is not on my list of important items.
