The preview files are used when exporting to AVI, but not to MPEG.
I don’t understand what you are trying to do for certain. If you mean you want to edit as a SD project, then when you are done, scale it up while exporting, that will not work. Import the SD project into a HDV project and then take the scaling off. That will work.

You can rip to many of the codecs you have on your PC. I have HuffYUV which creates large but good looking files, and I have the Cinepak codec by Radius which is a relatively decent codec for use in Premiere Pro.

You might have to do it manually. Each line can be kerned separately, as can each space between words. Neither Premiere Pro or After Effects was designed to justify text.

That is done in After Effects. You can animate the kerning or leading or anything you wish.

All you have to do is set one of them back to normal, then copy that one and paste attributes to the rest.

There are presets in PPro 1.5.1 and 2.0 that will put your clips into four corners. But in PPro 2.0 you can use the Multicam feature to do the switching.

Get the free trial of Cineform Aspect HD. Capture using HDLink and only get the M2T files. Then, in a second step, convert to Cineform AVI. It is easier on the PC.
