Are you finishing on video? If you are never going back to film and have no sync sound, then you don’t need to reverse telecine. Just have fun editing.

Do they do a one to one frame conversion? You need more information on what that telecine is doing. Find out the type of telecine and how (or even IF) it is synchronized.

Some tasks even works for me on a G4 dual 1.46. I may have a lot to do with the amount of ram.

I haven’t dealt with this, but perhaps you can only remove pulldown for DVCPROHD when the footage is tagged as such in the camera.
Have you tried using the reverse telecine feature in Cinema Tools? This might work for you.

You might not be looking at the right kind of hard drive, as I haven’t heard of a 300gb sata in the 2.5″ form factor used in laptops.

This question comes up all the time. If you search of “telephone” I’m sure you’ll find lots of answers.
A telephone has a greatly reduced frequency range and often noise. So if you cut the highs and lows, and add noise, you might get pretty darn close.

Horita makes a VITC/LTC timecode to RS422 inserter, the TCI-50. I haven’t used it.

I think the reason this feature is in i-movie and not in FCP is that higher level software does not try to figure out what the user actually intended. That is because most experienced user know what they want, and object to the software acting inconsistently.
For example, a video may be nearly finished and timed for a particular length, but then a transition is added of two seconds somewhere in the middle. If there are handles available, the piece would stay the same length. If there were no handles available, then the completed piece would be 1 second shorter, as the editing program forces a shortening to handle the transition.
I think that precise timeline positioning should takes precedence over adjustments for improperly formed transitions.
