    Hi Rodrigo;

    AJ-HD130 menu item 20 (SYS FORMAT), change to 0000 (1080i mode) then press the REC button to lock the choice. The SYSTEM FORMAT is always a manual choice, the playback format can be however be set to AUTO (menu item 22).

    Here’s the link to our website for downloading PDF manuals.

    Good luck!

    Jiri;

    Actually Panasonic makes some of the best 2.2M pixel FIT CCDs, these are used in our 1080 cameras, and those of numerous other Hi-Def camera manufacturers. We make 1080 and 720 CCDs and cameras, we leave it to the customers to choose the best one for their applications.

    May 19, 2005 at 4:45 pm in reply to: 1200a vs. 130 deck?

    Joseph;

    The AJ-HD130 is a discontinued model, it was HD only, 720p 59.94 and 1080i 29.97 only.
    It had HD-SDI I/O, and a built in downconvertor to NTSC / SDI. No IEEE1394, No up/cross
    conversion, no abiity to play anything but the 18um HD tapes.

    It was replacd by the 1200A last year, that has the ability to play ALL DV based formats, DV, DVCAM, DVCPRO, DVCPRO50, DVCPRO HD ( 720p 59.94 / 60, 1080i 29.97 & the newer 1080i 25/25p) It will up/down/
    cross convert anything to anything, it also has IEEE1394 as an option. Please remember that the 1200A (and
    1700) are both DVCPRO EX format basd, this uses 9um tracks to provide double the rec/play time over the older HD format.

    The old 130s are great decks, just they are lacking some of the IT I/Os for the more modern NLE world apps.

    May 7, 2005 at 11:50 am in reply to: HD capture card for Varicam

    Hi Tom:

    I think you mean the Pre-Precord option. That acts like a 10 second memory cache for the SDX900…saves missing shots in fast situations like breaking news etc. That’s an internal option card fo rthe SDX900, it’s not the SD card. The SD card is used for loading / saving scene files.

    The Pre-REC option is not available on the VariCam, as the camera was designed two years before the SDX900. Rest assured future HD and SD cameras will be based upon P-2, those will feature Pre-Record and a bunch of other goodies…

    Cheers!

    Rodrigo:

    Yes, but in a VERY limited way, it will respond to PLAY / REC type commands, but no editing / TC search style higher command functions. As it’s a computer, it obviously doesn’t have any transport ballistics latency for cueing etc, thus even if it responded to such commands, its speed would likely confuse the edit controller. Try it, but don’t expect much intelligence.

  • Rodrigo:

    1/. The Field Recorder conecpt we showed will feature a choice of DV / DVCPRO / DVCPRO 50 / DVCPRO HD native compression with the appropriate MXF wrapper + metadata etc, it will then “record” the data to P-2 cards. The CODEC will thus be identical to that in our conventional cameras / VTRs. The additional Metadata and the IT “plugability” of the P-2 format will however greatly enhance the flexibility. Think of a VariCam recording to the field unit, then just plug the P-2 card into the laptop or NLE…. cool eh?

    2/. No, I’m not from England, but I’m British (hence my dry sense of humour and the correct spelling!)

    3/. I’ll let Jan deal with “little Devil” questions… 😉

    Cheers!

    May 4, 2005 at 7:18 pm in reply to: FRC

    Hi Chip;

    It depends….

    The FRC has numerous functions; 1/. Off speed conversions for under / overcranking work, 2/. Format conversion and down converions. Audio may or may not be present depending upon which mode the device is being used.

    For off-speed work, ie ingest 720p 60 and output at 1080p 24, (2.5:1 slow-down) the FRC is working in it’s non-real time mode. This mode is used for under / overcrank processing and as such would result in very odd audio (people sound like chipmonks or whales!). Audio is thus not prcessed in this mode.

    For SAME frame rate format conversions (i.e. ingest 720p 24/60 and output 1080p 24) or for real-time work with format conversion,(i.e. ingest 720p 24/60 and 1080i 29.97) audio is passed and reclocked and then reformatted for the chosen output format. Likewise for downconverions, so long as no offspeed work is done, the audio is passed through, i.e. input 720 24/60 output 480i 29.97 (NTSC)

    Hope it makes sense.

  • Peter;

    You mean like the unit we announced at the NAB… a small field recorder, Video I/O, SDI I/O, HD-SDI I/O
    USB2.0 and IEE1394. Unit has 4 P-2 slots, SD slot, 7″ HD LCD, “VTR” like control panel for cueing, REC/PB control etc. The unit was about 10″ x 10″ x 3″, 12V power etc. It was under one of the glass preview bubbles, on the floor by the AG-HVX200 area.

    May 2, 2005 at 1:25 am in reply to: Panasonic AJ-HD1200A assemble edit ?

    Bob et al:

    The 1200A deck CANNOT perform ANY edit function, sorry to be rude (block caps) but this is a recurring issue. Editing on tape requires very specific hardware issues such as flying erase heads, servo offsets etc. Just because you can “crash” record into a tape doesn’t mean it is an edit. If you recorded the tape into which you “crash recorded” (same VTR used for both fuctions), you will have some semblence of format integrity. However if you try to “edit” into any other tape, chances are that you may get high errors, concealments, and servo unlocks at each edit point. Your client won’t like that….! Bad ju-ju….

    Please, for the 483rd time, the 1200A doesn’t, can’t and never will edit!

    Rant over…. Argh!
